GGF ENDORSES, SUPPORTS Gt'04 EVENT
In a special letter from Steve Crumb, executive director of the Global Grid
Forum, to GGF members, Crumb points out the accelerated interest and
developments in Grid computing worldwide. In particular, he notes the energy
surrounding the upcoming Gt'04 conference in Philadelphia next week, and the
involvement of industry leaders in that event.

The Global Grid Forum (GGF), a recognized leader in open standards for Grid
computing, has announced an integrated program in 2004 to highlight the
real-world applications of Grid technology in both science and industry.
Working with GRIDtoday, the Grid Today '04 conference, and other commercial
initiatives, GGF will help industry leaders understand and evaluate Grid
technology.
In addition, many GGF participants and sponsors are actively involved in the
Grid Today '04 (Gt'04) conference and exhibition to be held May 24-26 in
Philadelphia. Numerous people from the GGF community will be speakers in
plenary sessions and parallel sessions. GGF encourages you to attend Gt'04 as
a participant. We have negotiated a reduced rate in the conference
registration fee for GGF participants: $395, which is a $100 savings.
Information on Gt'04 can be found at www.gridtoday.com.
GGF's next two events -- in June and September -- are designed to provide
practical follow up to Gt'04 by Grid managers and practitioners.
GGF 11 (www.ggf.org/Meetings/GGF11/reg.htm) June 6-9 in Honolulu, in
concert with HPDC-13, will include a plenary targeted at "Foundations" of Grid
computing, with invited talks from leaders of standards bodies and updates on
early implementations of GGF's Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA).
Approximately 40 GGF technical groups will meet to continue developing the
standards to make fully operational Grids a reality.
In addition, GGF-11 will also initiate a new partnership program where GGF
will provide space to other Grid standards bodies for meetings and encourage
mixing with GGF groups. Technical committees from OASIS and DMTF have already
confirmed participation.
GGF 12, late September in Brussels, will be the stage for a major plenary
event focused on "Enterprise Grids" -- providing lessons learned from Grids
deployed in both commercial enterprises and research settings. The GGF 12
emphasis will be on business cases for Grid, ROI of Grids, and the "soft"
challenges -- culture, people, and history. Keynote speakers and panelists
will be Grid veterans from the manufacturing, financial services,
pharmaceutical, telecommunications, and research sectors. The plenary program
will be of particular interest to corporate decision-makers.
Watch for GGF at Gt'04 and other Grid meetings and join future GGF events to
help in the acceleration of Grid technology.
