Breaking News - Security:

IMERYS Selects SilverBack IT, Security Monitoring Software

SilverBack Technologies Inc, a leading provider of integrated network, systems, application and security monitoring software, announced that IMERYS, a worldwide manufacturer of raw materials and specialty minerals, has deployed SilverBack as the strategic monitoring solution for its global IT infrastructure. Headquartered in Paris, IMERYS manages its global network infrastructure from two data centers based in Atlanta and the United Kingdom. With SilverBack software, IMERYS now has a single centralized view of its global network and can optimize critical business and workflow processes and applications. SilverBack's Atlanta-based partner, Universal Data Consultants (UDC), provides SilverBack software as part of its VMON service, and project and other management services for the IMERYS network.

Utilizing SilverBack software, IMERYS can proactively monitor remote locations without the need for additional IT personnel. SilverBack enhances existing staff productivity by assuring the high availability of resources and applications such as electronic signature processing, help desk, e-mail and workforce automation. The ability to view potential service issues across the infrastructure expedites troubleshooting and isolation of the root cause of any problem before service is degraded for end users.

Web services, utility computing, .NET, CPU harvesting and distributed computing are just a few of the technologies that fall under the Grid computing umbrella. Gt04 -- a premiere enterprise Grid computing conference targeting industrial and commercial users -- will gather experts, and outline strategies and road maps for Grid deployment. "IMERYS required a simple and efficient means of improving IT controls and we needed to do it without adding additional resources," said Mark Worrel, director of global infrastructure and support at IMERYS. "We reviewed a number of tools before standardizing on SilverBack. We chose SilverBack and UDC because they delivered the only management solution with impressive IT and security management capabilities that would be easy and cost-effective to deploy. The majority of the platform solutions we evaluated required full-time staff to manage and maintain, which would substantially increase costs of ownership."

Utilizing SilverBack's integrated network management and security capabilities, IMERYS is better able to distinguish and shut down true Denial of Service (DoS) attacks from potentially legitimate surges in traffic. In addition, SilverBack has allowed IMERYS to consolidate a number of other global assets into one central view, including environmentals, other temperature controls critical to the minerals sector and PBXs.

"UDC has helped us to fine-tune SilverBack notifications so our help desk receives alerts only on meaningful events and can view the data in the formats they prefer, said Worrel. "This streamlined notification system has enabled us to reduce the costs of after-hours monitoring of critical devices and applications."

"IMERYS and other market-leading global organizations are finding SilverBack especially valuable to support staff in providing them with the ability to access core resources on a 24-7 basis from one shared console," said Jim Hare, vice president of worldwide sales for SilverBack. "Not having to worry about the performance of critical applications enables IMERYS to focus on improving research and development while expediting new product rollouts."
