Security Takes Lead In Red Hat Enterprise Linux (04/30/04)
Red Hat announced a two-year roadmap for security enhancements and
certifications for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Analysis: Enhanced security will help Linux in the government sector and in
enterprise mission-critical applications, including Grid-based applications.
Finisar To Acquire Infineon Fiber Optics Business (04/30/04)
Finisar Corp will acquire Infineon's Fiber Optics Business Unit.
Analysis: This might help Finisar gain market share in the optical component
space.
Arrest Made In United Kingdom "Phishing" Case (04/29/04)
British police have made one of the first arrests in connection with
"phishing" on the Internet.
Analysis: Phishing is not among the set of security threats facing the Grid.
Sun Microsystems Honored With Grid Award (04/28/04)
Frost & Sullivan has given its 2004 Excellence in Technology Award for Grid
computing to Sun Microsystems.
Analysis: Sun might deserve the recognition, but one can't help but wonder
about the objectivity of market research firms giving out awards and
recognition to industry groups that include both customers and non-customers.
New Version Of SSH Tectia Provides Integrated ID Mgmt (04/28/04)
SSH Communications Security announced a new version of its SSH Tectia managed
security middleware solution. The new SSH Tectia solution provides seamless
integration with identity management that allows enterprises, financial
institutions and governments to replace traditional, weak legacy
authentication capabilities with digital certificates and strong, two-factor
authentication.
Analysis: Where SSL and TLS (used in Globus) attempt to make a connection with
unencrypted channels, SSH encrypts all communications to and from the client
and server, making it appropriate for banks and others that want to protect
all aspects of client/server interaction.
webMethods Announces Fourth Quarter, Fiscal Year Results (04/28/04)
webMethods Inc announced financial results for its fiscal fourth quarter and
year ended March 31.
Analysis: The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times provide adequate
coverage of financial news without an assist from GRIDtoday.
Internet Computing Finds HIV Inhibitors (04/28/04)
Find-a-Drug announced that its HIV Internet project has found molecules which
inhibit the development of HIV. The project has so far used around 2,000 years
of computer time, involving 20,000 PCs from over 60 countries.
Analysis: Identifying candidate drugs to deal with various diseases is getting
almost too easy, swamping the capacity of labs to do follow-up testing.
