VERITAS CMO WAXES TECHNICAL ON
ENABLING UTILITY COMPUTING
VERITAS Software Corp announced that Jeremy Burton, chief marketing
officer,
delivered a persuasive keynote at the International Oracle Users Group (IOUG)
conference, reflecting on more than a decade of deep knowledge about enhancing
Oracle database performance and availability and outlining a roadmap for
extending the power of Oracle databases across the enterprise utilizing the
full range of VERITAS utility computing software building blocks. VERITAS
software helps increase the availability, performance and automation of Oracle
environments and ensures customers a smooth progression toward utility
computing and the alignment of IT resources with changing business needs.
"From VERITAS' early days we invested heavily to ensure that our File
System
and Volume Manager products produced the availability and performance Oracle
users were demanding," stated Burton in his keynote address to the IOUG.
"Today, we're redoubling our commitments to extend the power of Oracle across
the enterprise and ensure that our mutual customers can progress smoothly
toward a utility computing model and continue to realize meaningful returns on
their IT investments."
Web services, utility computing, .NET, CPU harvesting and distributed
computing are just a few of the technologies that fall under the Grid
computing umbrella. Gt04 -- a premiere enterprise Grid computing conference
targeting industrial and commercial users -- will gather experts, and outline
strategies and road maps for Grid deployment. For more information, visit

Burton espoused the "Top Five Benefits" that VERITAS solutions bring to
Oracle
environments:
- Availability: VERITAS solutions help to ensure complete application
availability in the event of user error, system crash or site outage:
- 1. Offering a single comprehensive software product set that
enables local, metropolitan and wide-area clustering of
applications that works with all major application,
application server and database vendors.
- 2. Ensuring testing and uniform failover of the entire
application environment in the event of disaster or a site
failure.
- Performance: VERITAS solutions for Oracle environments help to
improve application response time, user productivity and ROI by:
- 3. Providing correlation and root cause analysis of performance
problems from Web server to storage array, optimizing end-user
response times and improving overall quality of service.
- 4. Providing real-time management of application performance in
the production environment to avoid service disruptions and
ensure that service level agreements are met.
- Automation: VERITAS solutions help to improve utilization and
automation of storage and server infrastructure underneath the Oracle
database, allowing customers to maximize their current investments in
hardware and avoid vendor lock-in by:
- 5. Enabling shared, automated storage and server management
infrastructure for all databases and applications running on
any operating system from Solaris to Linux to Windows.
Burton illustrated his keynote talk with customer testimonials and VERITAS
product demonstrations, concluding with a discussion of how VERITAS' utility
computing strategy enables joint VERITAS/Oracle customers to align IT
resources with their changing business needs.
