Breaking News - Security:

XWall Web Services Firewall Adds Protection To Oracle 10g

Forum Systems Inc, a leading provider of trust management and threat protection Web services security solutions, announced its XWall Web Services Firewall now supports Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Application Server 10g to provide additional security for production Web services and Grid applications against known and unknown SOAP and XML vulnerabilities.

Organizations implementing enterprise-wide application servers and databases to deploy applications may be at risk to the growing class of security threats targeted at Web services and XML transactions -- including XML viruses, denial of Web service attacks and data invasions -- that today's network firewalls are blind to. For example, malicious users can use SOAP message vulnerabilities to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) attack against application and database servers. As back-end applications become Web services-aware, it is increasingly critical to proactively protect against these new vulnerabilities.

Web services, utility computing, .NET, CPU harvesting and distributed computing are just a few of the technologies that fall under the Grid computing umbrella. Gt04 -- a premiere enterprise Grid computing conference targeting industrial and commercial users -- will gather experts, and outline strategies and road maps for Grid deployment. XWall with XML Intrusion Prevention (XIP) complements Oracle's existing identity management security functionality to help identify and stop intruders, malicious activity and errors within SOAP and XML messages. With this partnership, customers can seamlessly share identity information to manage threat protection and trust management security policies together in one integrated WS-SEC framework.

"Oracle is always at the forefront of secure, enabling technologies. With Web services and Grid computing enabled by Oracle Application Server 10g and Oracle Database 10g, enterprises are able to build next-generation applications using the world's most powerful and extensible platform. As a Partner in the Oracle PartnerNetwork, we are pleased to work with Oracle to make enhanced security an easy and proactive element of these new environments," said Wes Swenson, president and CEO of Forum Systems.

XWall is the industry's first Web Services Firewall with XML Intrusion Prevention (XIP) -- the only way to protect against hidden Web services threats. XWall dynamically enforces the security, integrity and availability of Web services with a rules-based engine for setting comprehensive perimeter policies:

  • XML Intrusion Prevention (XIP) detects and prevents against malicious use.
  • Web Services Control decides "who, what, where and how" can gain access.
  • Web Services Data Integrity to check XML and SOAP messages for data and format conformance.
