Systems/Enterprise:
AlterPoint JOINS IBM PartnerWorld
FOR DEVELOPERS PROGRAM
AlterPoint Inc, a leading provider of enterprise network configuration
management (NCM) solutions, announced they have joined the IBM PartnerWorld
for developers program, and will integrate their DeviceAuthority Suite with
IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console and IBM Tivoli NetView. By integrating Tivoli's
fault management and topology discovery capabilities with AlterPoint's
configuration change monitoring and change implementation capabilities, the
combined solution will provide customers with comprehensive fault detection,
problem diagnosis and problem resolution for network devices.
"Configuration and change management are central to every function
performed
within IT," stated Glenn O'Donnell, program director at META Group Inc. "Until
recently, these functions have been overtly manual, especially in the network
domain. Emerging management technologies now enable increasing automation of
these tasks, saving operational costs and minimizing human error. Legacy
network configuration tools have proven useful, but incapable to drive the
next evolutionary stages of this market. Broad vendor support, process
automation, and integration with existing management portfolios are essential
virtues to any viable network configuration management effort. Without such
automation, controlling the growing network complexity will be
impossible."
Web services, utility computing, .NET, CPU harvesting and distributed
computing are just a few of the technologies that fall under the Grid
computing umbrella. Gt04 -- a premiere enterprise Grid computing conference
targeting industrial and commercial users -- will gather experts, and outline
strategies and road maps for Grid deployment. For more information, visit

DeviceAuthority provides a comprehensive solution for automating and
managing
the configurations of routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, wireless access
points and other network devices. IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console and IBM Tivoli
NetView provide network topology discovery and automated problem diagnosis and
resolution to improve performance and reduce support costs.
When integrated, DeviceAuthority notifies Tivoli when a configuration
change
occurs that may affect the performance or security of the network. This
notification includes detailed troubleshooting information, such as the "who,
what, when and where" of the configuration change, as well as any hardware or
software modifications associated with the change. By proactively detecting
problematic changes and helping to isolate the probable causes of problems,
the integrated solution reduces network downtime, improves staff efficiency
and increases security. Once the cause of the problem is identified, the
network engineer can quickly resolve it from the Tivoli console by launching
the AlterPoint DeviceAuthority Update module in-context and implementing the
appropriate configuration change.
"Effective network configuration management is a critical component of on-
demand computing initiatives," said Jeffrey Ait, CEO of AlterPoint. "The
integration between the DeviceAuthority Suite and IBM Tivoli solutions enables
customers to manage their network in a manner that is proactive, automated and
optimized."
