AUTONOMIC COMPUTING LOOMS ON THE HORIZON: Though the phrase "autonomic computing" sounds like the creation of a sci-fi writer's vivid imagination, it is in fact a reality -- and many vendors are developing such technology.
DATABASE MANAGEMENT MOVES INTO GRID: The Indian database market is currently at about $100 million, and the top three players put together have a market share of more than 70 percent. IDC expects the information and data management software segment to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17 percent till 2006.
MCNC-RDI INTROS INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES AT GGF CONFERENCE: MCNC-RDI demonstrated its prototype Grid Information Retrieval (GridIR) implementation for the Global Grid Forum's Grid Information Retrieval working group, which was founded by MCNC-RDI and is co-chaired by Kevin Gamiel, a systems analyst programmer for MCNC-RDI.
NPF LAUNCHES NETWORK COMPUTING INITIATIVE: This new group will work to evaluate how network processing technologies can be used to further increase the performance and efficiency of networking components in the data center and throughout the network.

UNISYS INTRODUCES NEW LINE OF PAY-PER-USE MODULAR SERVERS: The new products -- ClearPath Libra 520, 580 and 590 modular servers -- will feature the JBoss Java 2 Enterprise Edition server, and customers will pay each month for a certain amount of processor performance. The servers are metered, so customers can gauge how much they use and how much they need.
SUN MICROSYSTEMS x86 SYSTEMS HOST WEB SITES, GRID SOLUTIONS: The new wave of x86 momentum is attributed to demand for the Sun Fire V20z, Sun's first x86 server based on the AMD Opteron processor, Sun Fire V60x and V65x servers, the Sun Fire B100x and B200x blade servers and the Sun Fire V60x Compute Grid rack system.

HP AWARDED $784 MILLION SERVICES CONTRACT BY DEPT.
