UNISYS INTRODUCES NEW LINE OF PAY-PER-USE MODULAR SERVERS

Unisys recently inroduced the "pay-per-use" next generation of its ClearPath product line.

The new products -- ClearPath Libra 520, 580 and 590 modular servers -- will feature the JBoss Java 2 Enterprise Edition server, and customers will pay each month for a certain amount of processor performance. The servers are metered, so customers can gauge how much they use and how much they need.

This payment structure could prove very beneficial to companies that need more power during certain times of the year.

Web services, utility computing, .NET, CPU harvesting and distributed computing are just a few of the technologies that fall under the Grid computing umbrella. Gt04 -- a premiere enterprise Grid computing conference targeting industrial and commercial users -- will gather experts, and outline strategies and road maps for Grid deployment. For more information, visit www.gt04.com.

Grid computing is here!

As of right now, however, only the Libra 590 is available with pay-per-use licensing.

The new systems will simultaneously run the Unisys mainframe MCP and Unix operating systems on CMOS processors, as well as Windows or Linux on Intel Xeon or Itanium 2 processors.

The Libra 520 replaces the Unisys CS7201 which will stop production by mid-year, and the Libra 580 replaces the Libra 185, the previous high-end system, which will be phased out in the third quarter.

Unisys is now planning to ramp up partnerships with J2EE software vendors and is extending its Enterprise Application Environment to generate J2EE applications from user models, to be released next year.
