Caveo Chooses Tarantella, Sun To
Deliver SSL VPN Appliance
Reinforcing its position as a leader in secure remote access software
technology, Tarantella has teamed with Caveo Technology Group, a leading
provider of integrated security solutions and Sun Microsystems, the creator
and leading advocate of Java technology, to deliver the first fully
integrated, end-to-end SSL VPN security appliance, AccessAnywhere. Enterprises
can expect to save up to 70 percent with AccessAnywhere over a traditional
IPSec VPN solution. The powerful combination of these best-of-breed
technologies, together in a single integrated appliance, will simplify and
secure remote access from any endpoint device while dramatically reducing
network exposure to security risks and threats.
The AccessAnywhere appliance integrates Sun Microsystems' patented
"VPN-on-demand" SSL VPN technology from Sun's Java System Portal Server,
Tarantella Enterprise 3 software for secure remote access to applications and
data and two-factor authentication services from RSA Security's ACE/Server.
All of these best-of-breed software products are secured with an integrated
firewall, remotely monitored and are supported by Caveo's Customer Services
Center.
"By utilizing Sun's Secure Socket Layer (SSL) VPN technology as the core
engine of the AccessAnywhere appliance and integrating Tarantella Enterprise 3
software to provide access to non Web-enabled applications and data, Caveo is
the first vendor to offer a solution that leverages a proven, mature security
platform," said John Fanelli, senior director of Network Identity,
Communications and Portal products at Sun Microsystems.
"Until now, SSL VPN vendors have struggled with the issue of endpoint
security," said Gordon Hogg, partner at Caveo Technology Group. "By the time
you install anti-virus signatures, personal firewalls and cache cleaners,
you've compromised the anywhere, anytime access intent of the SSL VPN solution
and you've significantly increased the cost of deploying the solution. We're
delighted to partner with Sun and Tarantella to provide an appliance that
avoids these pitfalls."
"Tarantella is the leader in securing remote access to applications," said
Steve Bannerman, vice president corporate marketing at Tarantella. "The beauty
of the partnership between Sun, Caveo and Tarantella is that companies can now
leverage best of breed technologies to securely access their legacy
application infrastructure without costly application re-development or
installing and configuring additional security software on their remote
PCs."
Customers are equally enthusiastic. "For an organization like Uptime
Software
that doesn't have a large IT support staff, the short deployment time of Caveo
AccessAnywhere, combined with its low impact on our current infrastructure was
a true blessing," stated Alex Bewley, vice president of R&D at Uptime
Software. "We can now cost-effectively provide seamless remote access to key
internal business applications, like accounting and license management, in
addition to e-mail and file servers, much more securely than we were doing in
the past. This delivers real value."
