Westbridge Partners With nCipher To Introduce XA2700 Appliance

Westbridge Technology announced a new, fully-integrated Web Services management and security appliance with nCipher, a leading provider of cryptographic IT security solutions. The result of the partnership is the release of the Westbridge XML Message Server (XMS) XA2700 series appliance. The new single 1U rack-mountable device features a fully-integrated nCipher hardware-based cryptographic accelerator.

The XA2700 provides customers with a comprehensive set of Web Services Management (WSM) and XML Firewall features with the performance boost and physical security of hardened security hardware.

"The Westbridge and nCipher partnership addresses key concerns of companies adopting Web services -- the ability to process and secure XML transactions without incurring a performance hit," said Tom Rhinelander, analyst with New Rowley Group. "Delivering this joint solution in a compact XML appliance allows customers to quickly roll out XML Web services solutions that need high performance but must also be secure and manageable."

Web services, utility computing, .NET, CPU harvesting and distributed computing are just a few of the technologies that fall under the Grid computing umbrella. Gt04 -- a premiere enterprise Grid computing conference targeting industrial and commercial users -- will gather experts, and outline strategies and road maps for Grid deployment. Performance is a critical requirement for Web Services. Data-intensive XML and SOAP messages require significant processing for message handling and manipulation. Coupled with the performance demands for security, such as encryption and digital signatures, performance has risen in importance as companies deploy significant Web Services projects. Solutions such as the XA2700 are therefore necessary for ensuring optimum performance processing for Web Services.

The Westbridge XA2700 provides cryptographic acceleration and hardware- based secure key management. The XA2700 provides a significant performance boost for critical functions such as SSL, XML Encryption, XML Decryption and SAML processing. The Westbridge XA2700 also provides high performance XML and security processing coupled with patent-pending Smart Parser technology, that intelligently and efficiently performs XML operations such as high-speed parsing, validation and transformation in a fraction of the time. Performance for certain XML-related functions has improved over 10 times for most XML processing activities.

"The Westbridge XA2700 represents a quantum leap in performance capabilities for XML Web Services networks," said Tom Ryan, CEO of Westbridge Technology. "We have a strong commitment to provide the best security and management capabilities with industry-leading performance. We have added significant performance improvements and integrated with leading edge partners like nCipher to provide accelerated cryptographic processing. Our joint solution has the scalability to handle any environment now and in the future."

"We are pleased to work with Westbridge Technology as they strive to meet their customers demanding performance requirements," said Richard Moulds, vice president marketing at nCipher. "Our engineers have worked together to provide the highest performing solution in the marketplace. Our partnership was driven by customer demand from the market for a highly scalable, high performance Web Services Management and XML Firewall solution."

Westbridge also offers the WSM Speedometer program, enabling companies to test the performance of the Westbridge solution in their network using the customer's own use cases. Rather than relying on vendor-inflated performance numbers generated from unrealistic lab environments, customers can obtain their own customized performance benchmarks that they will experience in their environment.
