RSA Confirms Commitment To Industry Standards Organizations

RSA Security Inc announced that it has joined the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) to support the development and adoption of open industry standards that will help improve the security of computing environments and ensure the protection of digital assets. RSA Security, along with other members of the TCG, will work to create open standards for use in products and solutions across the spectrum of computing to enable more secure data storage, online business practices and online commerce transactions, while protecting privacy and individual rights. RSA Security's membership in the TCG is part of the company's ongoing commitment to supporting industry standards organizations that improve the functionality and interoperability of security technologies.

The TCG is an industry standards body, composed of computer and device manufacturers, software vendors and others dedicated to the advancement of trust and security in computing. It is a not-for-profit organization formed to develop, define and promote open standards for hardware-enabled trusted computing and security technologies, including hardware building blocks and software interfaces, across multiple platforms, peripherals and devices. TCG specifications are designed to enable more secure computing environments without compromising functional integrity with the primary goal of helping users to protect their information assets from compromise due to external software attack and physical theft.

"We are pleased to have RSA Security, an established leader in the security industry, join the TCG, and we welcome their participation as we forge ahead to create open standards that will improve the security, privacy and trust of the computing environment," said Jim Ward, president of the Trusted Computing Group. "The rapid growth of the TCG and increasing number of solutions available based on TCG specifications demonstrates the industry's desire for security solutions based on open standards and the commitment of leading vendors to making them a reality."

TCG specifications for the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and TCG Software Stack (TSS) are available now. Additional specifications supporting devices requirements (PCs, servers, cell phones/handhelds) as well as infrastructure are also in development. In support of this effort, RSA Security has already delivered products that are compliant with the initial TCG specification. RSA Security will also continue to work with the TCG to accelerate the design, use and management of TCG specifications so that individual and enterprise computer users can realize increased security through these open standards.

RSA Security's membership in the TCG marks the continued expansion of the company's role in leading industry standards bodies. Through work and leadership within groups such as the Liberty Alliance, OASIS, Open Mobile Alliance and WS-Federation, RSA Security strives to ensure the technical superiority and interoperability of its solutions and advance the security of computing environments to enable trust and confidence in e-business.

"We have long been committed to the creation and promotion of technology standards that improve the security of computing and the interoperability of security technologies," said Joe Uniejewski, chief technology officer and senior vice president of corporate development at RSA Security. "We believe that security, user confidence and trust are fundamental drivers of business and that security needs to be a primary consideration in the development of all technology solutions. Through our work with the TCG, we hope to increase awareness of the need for improved security throughout all levels of computing and to aid in the development of standards that will make the integration of security a seamless process."
