IBM, Cisco To Team Up On Security
Technology
The world's largest computer maker, IBM, and Cisco Systems Inc that they
would
tailor their security technology for computers and communications networks to
work better together. The companies said that they want to make it easier for
businesses and governments to protect their data and beat computer
viruses.
The companies said the agreement is part of a long-term alliance between
the
companies which last year led to IBM modifying its data storage software so
that it would work better with Cisco storage switches.
As part of the security agreement, IBM and San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco
said
their products would better be able to detect when there was a threat to a
business's security.
Among specific plans, IBM will integrate computer and network user
authentication technology from both companies. It has also changed the
security chip embedded in its notebook computers to work easily with Cisco's
virtual private network solutions.
IBM will also provide services to help assess a customers' combined IBM and
Cisco technology infrastructure with a focus on security.
