ORACLE EXEC SPEAKS OF COMPANY'S
FUTURE ON LINUX
Addressing thousands of attendees at LinuxWorld, the vice president of
Oracle's Linux Platform Office, Dave Dargo, delivered the message that Oracle
on Linux provides the ideal foundation for enterprise Grid computing.
Dargo called Grid computing "the next evolution for enterprise IT," and
elaborated on Linux's role in the field. By standardizing and consolidating
into a Grid system, companies can create the ultimate IT infrastructure, he
said.
Web services, utility computing, .NET, CPU harvesting and distributed
computing are just a few of the technologies that fall under the Grid
computing umbrella. Gt04 -- a premiere enterprise Grid computing conference
targeting industrial and commercial users -- will gather experts, and outline
strategies and road maps for Grid deployment. For more information, visit

Dargo also spoke on the rapid adoption of Linux by enterprises, including
Oracle. All 5,000 of Oracle's application developers use Linux, he said.
Oracle is internally committed to Linux, he said, referencing other Oracle
deployments, including a conversion of all of its mid-tier servers and an
aggressive sizing exercise to convert remaining back-end servers. He also
revealed that more than 60 percent of Oracle's servers are now running
Linux/Intel.
Another topic was the new Oracle9i Database Developer's Release for
Power/Linux. Now available for on the Oracle Technology Network, the release
provides faster throughput to decrease the TCO and optimize IT
environments.
Dargo concluded by speaking about Oracle's leadership in information
management. To prove his point, he mentioned Oracle 10g and the advancement of
Oracle Real Application Clusters, among other projects.
