Network Associates Launches
InfiniStream Network Solution
Network Associates Inc, a leading provider of intrusion prevention
solutions,
announced the launch of the InfiniStream network management solution,
providing customers with the ability to troubleshoot data across high-speed
Gigabit and Ethernet networks. As part of the Sniffer Technologies product
family, InfiniStream network management combines unmatched data capture
performance, high-level and detailed packet-level data visibility, and
best-in-class decodes and analysis of network traffic data. The new
InfiniStream solution changes the paradigm of problem-solving on high-speed
networks by combining advanced network monitoring and management capabilities
in one device, which also helps to minimize the high costs associated with
network and application downtime and degradation.
Through its ability to retain all of the packets at very high utilization
rates on Gigabit networks and store them on its large 3.2 terabyte hard drive,
InfiniStream network management provides IT staff with the data to solve
problems shortly after they occur, rather than requiring them to go through
additional, complex, and time consuming steps in order to retrieve the data.
InfiniStream network management makes the data actionable by allowing users to
see trends in bandwidth consumption across a number of different categories in
order to determine where they should begin their troubleshooting efforts. This
same capability can be used to proactively recognize problems prior to
affecting end-users.

InfiniStream network management can also help resolve intermittent network
problems, providing continuous long-term data capture, which allows users to
have data for an entire transaction or series of transactions. Unlike
traditional network analysis tools, long-term data capture enables IT managers
to drill down to a specific piece of data and conduct post-capture analysis,
while also providing the ability to analyze additional, unrelated pieces of
data during the same timeframe.
With 3.2 terabytes of storage capacity and unparalleled capture speed, the
InfiniStream network management solution allows end-users to capture, store
and analyze large amounts of traffic across all seven layers of the network.
The InfiniStream solution today includes the following key components:
- Capture Engine -- The capture engine enables network managers to
isolate
a
continuous flow of network traffic and can retain all of the packets and store
them to the 3.2 terabyte hard disk. The InfiniStream solution also keeps
historical traffic statistics, giving network managers and technicians an easy
to access overview of network activity.
- Network Management Console -- The network management console enables
managers to connect multiple capture engines and select one of more streams of
data for analysis. It allows network managers to retrieve the network traffic
and administer the capture engine, and provides filters that enable a user to
narrow a search to a more manageable set of traffic by any combination of
time, IP address or port number.
- Packet Decodes -- The packet decodes convert network data into proper
syntax for added visibility into network and application traffic, enabling IT
managers to troubleshoot all layers of the network and decrease problem
resolution time.
- Expert Analysis -- The Expert analysis system is modeled after human
thought process to help solve complex problems, conducting analysis that makes
troubleshooting more simple and efficient by identifying the root causes of a
network problem and suggesting solutions to those problems. The Expert system
also notifies IT managers of any unusual network activity and discovers
inefficiencies, which can also cause network slowdowns.
