WWRE Selects Sonic Software's XML
Engine
The WorldWide Retail Exchange (WWRE) has selected Sonic eXtensible
Information
Server from Sonic Software, a leader in distributed, standards-based
integration, as part of its WorldWide Item Management (WIM) Solution,
consisting of a global catalog and data synchronization product. The WWRE
depends on the real-time XML storage and processing capabilities of XIS to
provide timely and accurate product information to retailers around the globe.
Leveraging optimized XML processing and storage, Sonic enables the WWRE to
deliver synchronized item information, such as pricing, description and
inventory to retailers, reducing data discrepancy and improving inventory
control.
Faced with the performance and scalability challenges that working with XML
often impose, the WWRE sought to increase its ability to meet market demands.
Sonic eXtensible Information Server, running on Sun Solaris SPARC servers,
provides the WWRE with optimized, native XML storage and processing, enabling
them to accommodate growth. eXtensible Information Server bolsters the WWRE's
ability to respond to market changes by making it easier to change or add data
structures, a process which previously took up to 18 months. Using Sonic, the
WWRE is also able to converge on a single data store to support multiple
languages, which previously required separate databases to support.
"The native XML support provided by Sonic technology allows us to provide
near
real-time product information that meets the specific needs of our retail
members," said Jimmy Kim, director of WorldWide Item Management at the WWRE.
"Using Sonic makes it simpler to manage complex XML schemas, and make changes
more quickly improving the overall performance of our system."
The WWRE's WIM Solution is a comprehensive suite of tools and services that
provides retailers and their suppliers with a single point of access to
synchronize accurate, consistent and complete item information. This quality
data is the foundation for enabling more sophisticated collaborative processes
with the end goal of increasing supply chain efficiencies and overall
productivity.
