KONTIKI DELIVERY GRIDS SURPASS 11
MILLION USERS WORLDWIDE
Kontiki announced that use of its Delivery Management System software,
based
on the company's breakthrough Grid delivery technology, has reached 11 million
users worldwide. Kontiki's customers, which include Adobe, CNET, Ernst &
Young, Nextel, Palm and VeriSign, are using Kontiki delivery Grids to improve
communications, train employees and provide cost effective customer support
using full screen business video. With 11 million users, these customer
delivery Grids represent some of the largest and most practical corporate
applications of Grid computing in use today.
Gartner senior analyst Lawrence Orans commented, "Grid delivery is a strong
option for enterprises looking to provide business video on demand for
internal and external communications, training and customer support solutions.
The highly scalable nature of Grid delivery software enables users around the
globe to take advantage of rich content and full screen business video."
Kontiki's customers are transforming their communications with business
video
to improve business effectiveness while dramatically lowering costs via Grid
delivery technology. On internal corporate networks, enterprises have deployed
Kontiki delivery Grids as large as 80,000 users for communications and
training. On the Internet, enterprises have deployed Grids as large as several
million users for customer communications and support.
According to recent research from Watson Wyatt, a global consulting firm
focusing on human capital, companies with effective communications delivered
returns to shareholders that were 41 percent greater than those with poor
communications practices. "The better you communicate, the better your return
on investment (ROI). The fact is that organizations that communicate
effectively dramatically outpace organizations that don't."
Video offers several key benefits for improving business communications
including improved comprehension, message consistency, reusability, increased
impact, and timely delivery. Kontiki's DMS and Grid delivery technology enable
mass adoption of business video communications by addressing adoption barriers
such as cost, publishing, security, delivery control, video quality, anytime
anywhere access and measurement.
Bryan Plug, Kontiki's president and CEO commented, "Video is transforming
the
way businesses communicate, both internally and externally. Kontiki's highly
scalable Grid delivery technology makes it possible for companies to
cost-effectively provide high impact, full screen video communications to
employees and customers. Today's announcement is an important milestone for
Grid computing and business video, further cementing the use of Grid delivery
as a proven and practical enterprise-ready technology."
Kontiki's patent-pending Grid delivery technology taps the unused bandwidth
of
networked PCs and servers, allowing enterprises to deliver full screen video
and other rich media at a 90 percent cost savings. Like Grid computing, which
taps underutilized CPU processing power, Kontiki's Grid delivery software
pulls together existing network and storage resources on both PCs and servers
to create a network capable of delivering rich media with far greater
efficiency and lower costs than traditional delivery methods. As a result
Kontiki allows enterprises to provide full screen, high quality video
communications to employees and customers worldwide without having to upgrade
existing network hardware or bandwidth.
