Casio Selects BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 As SCM Foundation

BEA Systems Inc, a leading application infrastructure software company, announced that Casio Computer Co Ltd has chosen BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 as the software platform for its next generation supply chain management (SCM). This new BEA-powered system will be designed to enable Casio to manage and monitor business processes across the entire SCM network, both inside and outside the firewall. With BEA's technology, Casio can gain true competitive advantage with real-time information access, enhanced two-way business visibility and improved supply chain performance.

"As global competition intensifies, it becomes increasingly difficult to outperform our rivals if we continue to expand our IT infrastructure using the traditional method of optimizing each individual business unit," said Atsushi Yazawa, general manager of Information Technology department for Casio Computer Co Ltd. "Our business today spans multiple countries and business units and requires the standardization of all of our IT operations on a single technology platform. By adopting BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 as the core infrastructure for our supply chain and business management systems, Casio has taken the first major step designed to connect our global technology network."

Casio is one of the leading consumer electronics companies in the world and has selected BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 as its technology platform of choice. Casio is currently building a new SCM system designed to optimize its demand forecasting capabilities, and to enable major decreases in production lead-time and noticeable reductions in inventory. BEA's technology is designed to more easily facilitate the integration of these new IT systems with existing systems, as well as those of the many manufacturing subsidiaries in the Casio Group. BEA can also enable Casio to engage in B2B integration with its global network of buyers and suppliers that assume component and materials inventory management activities, as well as EMS companies. NEC Corp (Tokyo) has been assisting in the development of the system for Casio and it is expected to be fully operational next year.

"The people of Casio have always delivered cutting-edge consumer electronics; they came to BEA looking for that same innovation in a technology platform," said Chet Kapoor, vice president and general manager of BEA Weblogic Integration. "BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 can give them a foundation upon which to build a robust supply chain management system designed to handle the internal and external demands of their business today, and expand as Casio's business grows in the future. BEA is pleased to add Casio to our ever-broadening stable of customers who can benefit from our converged application development and integration platform."

Said Atsushi Yazawa, general manager of the Information Technology department at Casio, "BEA understands that the effective utilization of BPM (Business Process Management) technology is paramount to our business. When we can visually describe both internal and external processes and then integrate that data in real time, it can be possible to construct a system that is optimal for our entire global network. More importantly, with BEA we can quickly develop and launch these systems. We firmly believe that in addition to greater cost-effectiveness, we can achieve a development environment that can promptly respond to everyday changes in business conditions. BEA's software occupies an important position as IT infrastructure within Casio going forward."

BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 can provide customers with a unified framework for business integration, simplified production and management, as well as a new architecture for the rapid assembly and integration of applications, business processes and partner trading networks. BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 can provide a seamless production environment for integration specialists and application developers alike by leveraging BEA WebLogic Workshop development environment and a catalog of standards-based application integration adapters.
