Storage:
CNT Adds IBM XRC FICON Support To
UltraNet Storage Director
CNT, a global expert in storage networking solutions, announced its first
FICON extension offering with IBM's TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server
Extended Remote Copy (XRC) support. The new extension solution uses CNT's
UltraNet Storage Director. FICON extends disk mirroring distances and allows
customers to safely and quickly move data thousands of miles, bolstering their
business continuity capabilities. The combination of CNT's FC/9000 FC/FICON
Director and its professional services expertise allows the company to provide
customers with complete solutions to migrate from ESCON to FICON, including
remote applications.
IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Servers support FICON to help customers
increase performance and throughput. Customers also value FICON for its
extended distance capabilities for replication and other remote applications,
which dramatically decreases the number of required storage
interfaces/devices.
"CNT has more than 60 IBM XRC (ESCON) installations at some of the largest
data centers in the world. We've also been supporting FICON for several
years," said Mark Knittel, group vice president of worldwide product
operations at CNT. "We have a great deal of experience with both the
sophisticated capabilities of XRC as well as the FICON protocol, and it's only
natural that we'd extend that expertise to support IBM's latest XRC-based
solutions."
"IBM views its support of FICON connections as an opportunity for customers
to
improve upon the already impressive speed and scalability of IBM TotalStorage
solutions, particularly as it applies to extended remote copy functionality,"
said Roland Hagan, vice president of storage systems marketing at IBM. "CNT's
offering provides customers with additional choice for their storage
systems."
CNT's UltraNet Storage Director (USD) is a high-performance platform that
supports all storage-related data replication applications for both disk and
tape, along with remote channel networking for a wide range of device types.
This multi-protocol switching platform interconnects host-to-storage and
storage-to-storage systems across the enterprise-regardless of distance-to
create a high capacity, high performance storage network using the latest
high-speed interfaces.
IBM's TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server XRC technology is designed to
support fast recovery of data. It provides copy services to help maintain a
secondary site with mirrored data so that a switch over can take place in a
short amount of time. Customers can now connect their primary site to a
secondary site using CNT's UltraNet Storage Director and any major network
link, including T1/E1, T3/E3, ATM, SONET or Ethernet.
