Storage:
VERITAS Extends Windows
Leadership
VERITAS Software Corp, a leading storage software provider, announced the
availability of VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.0 for Windows, storage management
and virtualization software that integrates with Microsoft platforms to
flexibly manage storage in Windows environments. VERITAS volume management and
virtualization technology enables users to pool heterogeneous storage
resources to increase availability. VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.0 for Windows
is a key component of the company's building block approach to utility
computing, providing the critical foundation of "always-on" storage
availability across heterogeneous storage arrays combined with simplified
storage management for Windows environments.
VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows extends VERITAS' leadership in
Windows
server backup and recovery to include volume management and virtualization.
VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.0 for Windows provides advanced volume management
and virtualization capabilities for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Storage
Server 2003. The new software includes licensable options for Dynamic
Multipathing, FlashSnap and an option for Microsoft Cluster Service support.
VERITAS is recognized as the worldwide market leader for volume management and
virtualization with 69.9 percent market share.
An option to VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows, VERITAS FlashSnap is a
software-based snapshot solution that leverages Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy
Service, a Windows Server 2003-based technology that enables
Microsoft-supported snapshots of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft
SQL Server 2000 for quick-recovery and high-performance backups and restores.
VERITAS FlashSnap also provides off-host processing for testing, data analysis
and reporting. Through the VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows Dynamic
Multipathing Option, VERITAS supports the largest breadth of heterogeneous
storage arrays of any Microsoft partner -- from low-end disk to high-end
arrays.
"With the release of VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.0 for Windows, industry
leaders Microsoft and VERITAS continue to work together, providing robust
enterprise storage support for Windows environments," said Zane Adam, director
of product management and marketing for the Enterprise Storage Division at
Microsoft. "Together, Microsoft and VERITAS provide customers with constant
data availability, which is the foundation for any enterprise storage strategy
on the Windows platform."
VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.0 for Windows also includes:
- Integration with Microsoft's latest storage technologies: Volume Shadow
Copy Service, Virtual Disk Service and Automated System Recovery
- Dynamic Multipathing support for eleven new storage array families,
including storage area network-based failover and load balancing capabilities
for existing and new storage arrays
- High availability through Dynamic Relayout, which delivers automated
online
reconfiguration capabilities to increase performance and eliminate
downtime
- Simplified management with Storage Foundation Assistant, which provides
ready access to the most commonly used commands to simplify IT administration
and increase efficiency.
"VERITAS is building on its technology partnership with Microsoft to enable
our joint customers to fully leverage the new storage technologies in Windows
Server 2003 and Windows Storage Server 2003," said Bob Maness, senior director
of product marketing, VERITAS Software. "With VERITAS Storage Foundation for
Windows, VERITAS provides the core foundation for building storage solutions
to meet the critical availability requirements necessary for customers to
deploy a utility computing environment using Windows technology."
VERITAS customers can license and deploy as much of the VERITAS Storage
Foundation for Windows software as they need, with one CD that includes
advanced volume management technology as well as VERITAS FlashSnap, Dynamic
Multipathing and an option for MSCS support. VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.0
for Windows has completed Microsoft's certification for Windows Server 2003
and has received Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Certification. Additionally,
VERITAS' volume management technology received the "Products We Love" Award by
the readers of Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine as a solution to
effectively manage storage environments.
