Security:
Sun, Caveo Announce Low Cost,
Simplified, SSL VPN Appliance
Sun Microsystems Inc, the creator and leading advocate of Java technology,
announced that Caveo Technology Group, a leading provider of integrated
security solutions, introduced the first fully integrated, end-to-end security
appliance for simplifying and securing remote access to any Web, client/server
and non Web-enabled legacy application from a standard Web browser. Caveo has
the unique advantage over its competitors of leveraging Sun's 22 years of UNIX
leadership and experience in building scalable, reliable and safe network
computing infrastructures.
"By utilizing Sun's Secure Socket Layer (SSL) VPN technology as the core
engine of the AccessAnywhere appliance, Caveo is the first vendor to offer a
solution that leverages a proven, mature security platform," said John
Fanelli, senior director of Network Identity, Communications and Portal
products at Sun Microsystems. "AccessAnywhere is ideal for companies looking
to leverage the cost savings and simplified administration of SSL VPN's, and
who understand the importance of using a security environment that has been
validated by hundreds of existing customers."
Sun's proven technologies ensure that companies won't need to integrate
immature technologies into their networks. AccessAnywhere integrates
Web-enabling technology directly into the platform, providing remote access to
any back-end legacy application without expensive software rewrites or time
consuming Web application development and integration.
"By building on Sun's Solaris operating system, our customers have the
security and confidence that AccessAnywhere is built on a rock-solid
foundation, providing the functionality that makes remote access secure,
scalable and available," said Gordon Hogg, partner at Caveo Technology Group.
"The ability to mobilize CRM, SFA and ERP applications is the ultimate goal of
deploying a remote access system. If you can shorten the sales cycle by
mobilizing CRM to the sales force, then you have delivered a concrete return
on your investment."
All-in-One Security Appliance
AccessAnywhere is a complete, fully integrated and tested system that is
non-intrusive to existing IT operations. It typically requires no more than a
half an hour to set up and Caveo's Customer Services Center provides a single
point of contact for service and support.
The AccessAnywhere appliance integrates Sun's patented "VPN-on-demand" SSL
VPN
technology from Sun's Java System Portal Server, Secure Remote Access;
thin-client software from Tarantella Inc.; and two-factor authentication
services from RSA Security Inc. All of these best-of-breed software products
are integrated on top of the Solaris operating system, based on the SunFire
V210 platform. The Java System Portal Server is a key component of the Java
Enterprise System, a complete standards-based platform to deliver secure
network services.
"In today's always-on world, it's imperative that enterprises are able to
easily and securely access the resources they need from any standard Web
browser, when they need them, no matter what the platform," said Masha
Khmartseva, senior analyst with The Radicati Group. "With Sun's SSL technology
at the core, AccessAnywhere offers enterprises secure, anytime access at a
reduced cost and on a foundation they trust."
The solution is secured with an integrated firewall, and remotely
monitored.
The powerful combination of these technologies in a single integrated platform
is designed to overcome the limitations of Web-only SSL (secure sockets layer)
technology and replace IPSec VPN's for secure remote access to any Microsoft
Windows, UNIX, Linux, IBM AS/400 or mainframe application.
Secure "Clientless Access" to Enterprise Applications
True mobility is about providing secure information to consumers, inventory
managers, executives, teachers, financial advisors, emergency medical
technician -- anyone, anywhere, anytime. AccessAnywhere can enable the entire
enterprise and their extended value chain of suppliers, partners and customers
to access any critical business process or corporate application running on a
Solaris, Linux, Microsoft Windows, IBM AS/400 or mainframe platform --
whenever and wherever, based on who they are -- all from a standard Web
browser. No additional software or configuration of a remote computer is
needed.
Together, Sun and Caveo are announcing a complete end-to-end remote access
solution. Sun provides the open and interoperable systems and reference
architecture, and Caveo integrates the best-of-breed applications, support and
testing.
