Security:
Tests Verify Foundry Load Balancer
For DoS Attack Protection
Foundry Networks Inc, a performance and total solutions leader for
end-to-end
switching and routing, announced that Foundry's ServerIron 400 load- balancing
switches protected server farms from wire-speed Gigabit rate DoS attacks at
1.488 million packets per second in independent tests performed by The Tolly
Group. The tests also concluded that the Foundry switches process application
transactions at an unprecedented rate of up to 108,000 each second. ServerIron
systems' transaction performance, combined with the DoS attack protection,
delivers unsurpassed scalability and security to the mission-critical IP
application infrastructure of the most demanding enterprise and service
provider customers.
ServerIron Layer 4-7 load balancing switches are industry leaders in
security,
performance and intelligence, and support a rich set of Layer 4 and Layer 7
features. The Tolly Group tests prove that ServerIron 400 switches deliver
consistently high performance across a range of metrics and meet a variety of
customer needs. The Tolly Group is a highly respected and independent test
organization, and used practical configurations and real-world Web traffic
for testing Foundry ServerIron switches.
"Applications and server farms are at the heart of business operations, and
they are highly vulnerable to the growing security threats that could have a
huge impact on productivity and profits," said Chandra Kopparapu, vice
president and general manager of the Service Provider and Multi-Layer
Switching Business Unit at Foundry Networks. "With the ServerIron systems'
Tolly-verified wire-speed Gigabit rate protection against security threats,
and the high transaction performance, our customers can be assured that their
applications are able to deliver superior availability and performance
24x7."
Foundry ServerIron systems deliver high performance for a range of
real-world
packet sizes. In addition to security and transaction performance, ServerIron
switches support the highest concurrent session capacity in the industry for
massive scalability of application infrastructure. Session capacity is a
critical consideration in selecting Layer 4-7 load balancers because it not
only supports large-scale applications, but also is instrumental in defeating
DoS attacks.
"ServerIron switch connection performance, security and connection capacity
capabilities are the highest we have tested for products in this class, and
required the largest test configuration for Layer 4-7 switching that we have
conducted to date," said Kevin Tolly, president and CEO of The Tolly Group.
"The results of our rigorous and real-world testing show that Foundry's
ServerIron 400 switches can perform reliably for even the most demanding
applications."
