GRID SUPERCOMPUTER UNEARTHS LARGEST PRIME SO FAR

TAKING CUES FROM MOTHER NATURE TO FOIL CYBER ATTACKS

SCIENTISTS SEEK TO CREATE THEIR OWN SUPERHIGHWAY
Special Features
-
BANDWIDTH CHALLENGE TEAMS PUSH PERFORMANCE ENVELOPE AT SC2003
- Once the data were moved and the performance tracked, a team
representing
the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, Caltech and Los Alamos National
Laboratory had achieved a new record from sustained throughput -- 23.21
gigabits per second, surpassing last year's record by about 5 Gbits.
-
OMG TO STANDARDIZE ASSET ANALYSIS, DISCOVERY, MANAGEMENT
- Members of the Object Management Group (OMG) met in London from Nov.
17-21
at a meeting sponsored by Compuware Corp, klocwork, Thales and AMS. The
gathering combined standards work, five information days and conferences,
an
educational series of six tutorials and vendor software demonstrations.
-
TAKING CUES FROM MOTHER NATURE TO FOIL CYBER ATTACKS
- Computer scientists at Carnegie Mellon University and the University
of
New Mexico are collaborating on a National Science Foundation
(NSF)-supported project to study "cyber diversity" for computer systems
as a
way to fend off malicious viruses, worms and other cyber attacks.
-
EXPLORING COLLABORATION SCENARIOS
By K.S.Venkatram
- This article will describe the specification that extends
effectiveness in
working with remote file systems. We will look at basic interfaces and
platforms known to enable file systems across various mappings and
connection points.
-
GRIDS OFFER POWER, POTENTIAL SAVINGS FOR ENTERPRISES
- The main reasons that companies will look at Grid computing are power
and
cost-efficiency. Grids are capable of running large-scale applications,
as
well as lowering management costs.
Systems/Enterprise
-
GRID2003 FEATURES UB SUPERCOMPUTING CENTER
- Grid2003, an enormous display of thousands of processors running
numerous
applications internationally, included the Center for Computational
Research
(CCR) as a major participant.
-
SUN PICKS KERALA, INDIA FOR GRID LEARNING CENTER
- The first regional COE selected in India, IIITM-K becomes one of the
four
universities in the world to be recognized by Sun and the academic
community
as leading edge researchers in e-learning technologies.
-
SMARTS, BladeLogic ESTABLISH GLOBAL ALLIANCE
- Through the agreement, which includes product integration and sales
collaboration, customers can quickly implement industry-leading
capabilities
for efficiently managing complex and distributed application
infrastructure.
-
CUSTOMERS CHOOSE SUN FOR SCALING OUT NETWORK COMPUTER
- DaimlerChrysler Consult Graz; Petroleo Brasileiro, S.A. (Petrobras)
and
United Utilities have used customised Sun Managed Services engagements to
help them achieve measured improvements in IT operations and reductions
in
risks, costs and complexities.
Applications
-
SCIENTISTS SEEK TO CREATE THEIR OWN SUPERHIGHWAY
- Many researchers and scientists, desperate to conduct serious
research,
are frustrated by the Internet's enormous popularity and congested
traffic.
They have subsequently begun to plan a new superhighway solely for
themselves.
-
PLUMTREE EXTENDS RADICAL OPENNESS W/ .NET WEB CONTROLS ADD-ON
- Hundreds of .NET Web Controls created by Microsoft and the .NET
development community can now be used without any coding to create
portlets
within the Plumtree Enterprise Web Suite.
-
GRID SUPERCOMPUTER UNEARTHS LARGEST PRIME SO FAR
- The new largest prime number, identified by Michael Shafer, contains
6,320,430 digits, and would take someone the best part of five weeks to
write out longhand.
-
UMASS RECEIVES IBM TECHNOLOGY GRANT
- The University of Massachusetts-Amherst has been awarded a highly
competitive IBM Shared University Research (SUR) award to study how Grid
computing technology can help reduce the risk of power outages and
weather
emergencies, and improve homeland security.
CALL FOR SPEAKERS
GRID TODAY 2004 (Gt04) -- the first major conference and exhibition
to focus on the emerging market for commercial business
applications of Grid computing, has issued a Call for Speakers
We are looking for high-level speakers from
commercial organizations to speak on
applications and implementation of Grid computing

Quote Of The Week
"We are looking at computers the way a physician would look at genetically-related patients, each susceptible to the same disorder. In a more diverse population, one member may fall victim to a pathogen or disorder, while another might not have the same vulnerability." -- Mike Reiter, Professor, Carnegie Mellon University
