Chasseral Deploys Real-Time System
On Versant Technology
Versant Corp, an industry leader in data management and integration for the
real-time enterprise, announced that Chasseral, a United Kingdom-based
supplier of real-time collaboration systems, has deployed the LiveDrive
collaboration platform, which is built on Versant's data management
technology, VDS. LiveDrive increases the productivity of collaborative
document preparation such as complex sales proposals and contracts.
LiveDrive and the embedded VDS increase the productivity of developing
sales
proposals and responses to RFPs by 50 percent. LiveDrive is a real-time
collaboration platform that enables collaborative editing of documents that
require contributions from various people. Authors, reviewers and bid managers
can work together on the same document in real-time. LiveDrive uses Microsoft
Word as the client program in conjunction with another Chasseral product,
Collaboration Manager for Word, and utilizes VDS as the repository for the
documents and all the associated in-process and stored state. The shared
access, instant access to all document changes, and audit trail requirements
demand an object-oriented database. Versant's VDS efficiently stores the data
about the state of the system. Its object technology ideally complements
LiveDrive.
"Versant was chosen for LiveDrive because it provides a fast, low resource,
low administration transaction management system for distributed multi-user
systems," said Derek Clark, chief executive officer of Chasseral. "LiveDrive
is also available in a developer's edition that provides a platform for
customized collaborative applications with multi-user real-time editing,
access control permissions, auditing, and activity reporting. VDS is ideal for
the hierarchical and network-structured data required by this application. We
picked VDS after extensive evaluations of competing products."
A LiveDrive customer, Jerry Musselwhite of Profund says, "Chasseral has
delivered a solution that not only saves time across the tender and proposal
process -- important enough in itself when facing deadlines -- but more
importantly unlocks the quality of the bid team, freeing them up from the
chores to concentrate on the content." Profund is the United Kingdom's leading
supplier of distributed component-based benefit systems.
"Our data management technology is uniquely suited to solve complex
real-time
data problems," said Nick Ordon, president and chief executive officer of
Versant. "Chasseral's application exploits many of the core capabilities of
Versant's object data management technology. In addition, managing the
hierarchical data that is typically found in collaboration software is a key
strength of Versant's data management technology."
