Harris Corporation Secures Government Contracts

Harris Corp announced that its STAT (Security Threat Avoidance Technology) network security software has been selected to secure two U.S. government agencies' computer networks against cyberterrorism, viruses and other security threats. Initially worth more than $2 million, the contracts with the U.S. Army and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) contain options that could increase their overall value to $5 million by 2009.

Under terms of the Army contract, Harris will expand a previous agreement for its STAT Scanner vulnerability assessment solution. The product is being used by the Army to detect vulnerabilities in more than 1.5 million of their workstations and servers around the world, providing detailed reports on local network vulnerabilities.

The product is designed to effectively manage the many security alerts the Army receives on a daily basis. The U.S. Department of Defense, as well as other federal agency security teams, issues information assurance vulnerability alerts and bulletins (IAVAs and IAVBs) when computer vulnerabilities are discovered. These alerts are automatically incorporated into STAT Scanner.

Through an enterprise license program, NOAA will use STAT Scanner, STAT Scanner Console, and STAT Analyzer to perform vulnerability assessments and computer security audits on each of its approximately 340 major network systems in offices around the U.S. NOAA's networks are vital to providing users with critical data, information and services used in weather forecasts and warnings. NOAA is also the lead science and research agency for atmospheric and ocean modeling.

"These enterprise licensing programs are the most effective way for large government agencies to efficiently scan their entire computer networks for vulnerabilities," said Mike Zeitfuss, vice president and general manager Homeland Security programs business unit, Harris Government Communications Systems Division (GCSD). "They enable IT administrators to instantly get a clear assessment of their networks, which is crucial in protecting them from the myriad of security threats that face today's critical and complex networks."
