NTT COMWARE JOINS OSDL

The Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), a global consortium of leading technology companies dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux, announced that NTT COMWARE, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT and one of the largest systems integrators in Japan, has joined the lab as its newest member.

NTT COMWARE offers network and systems development expertise, specializing in the integration of large-scale, mission-critical systems for Japanese telecommunications giant, NTT. A pioneer in Linux, NTT COMWARE opened its first Linux competency center in Japan in 1999. It was among the earliest firms offering end-to-end Linux services, including consulting, systems development, operations, maintenance and training. NTT COMWARE has led the Japan build-out of NTT's high-speed, highly-available, UNIX-based communications system, including voice over IP, distance learning, enterprise e-business and other industry-vertical applications.

"NTT COMWARE has been building optimum systems for customers since its founding in 1997 by collaborating with leading hardware and software suppliers," said Yuji Matsuo, CEO of NTT COMWARE. "Early on we recognized the importance that open source would play for these flexible customer-oriented systems and we built our offerings around open source as a solution, not just an operating system. We are working closely with Japanese government bodies and NTT group companies to advance open source in industry and we look forward to promoting OSDL and its initiatives in the markets we serve."

NTT COMWARE will participate in OSDL's global Carrier Grade Linux and Data Center Linux working group initiatives.

"NTT COMWARE very successfully built a deep and broad set of skills to support open source solutions based on their traditional UNIX expertise providing enterprise-level consulting services in Japan," said Stuart Cohen, CEO of OSDL. "We are pleased to have NTT COMWARE join OSDL and we look forward to working with them in expanding the Lab's commitment to Linux in Japan."
