Security:
Sourcefire, IBM To Release Net
Monitoring Systems
Privately held Sourcefire Inc said it would release a new security
appliance
on Monday that monitors corporate networks for stealth attacks and announce a
partnership with International Business Machines Corp to bundle the software
on servers.
The company's Real-Time Networks Awareness software creates a map of all
the
devices on a network, analyzes traffic as it flows across the network and
alerts network administrators to suspicious activity, said Marty Roesch,
founder and chief technology officer of Sourcefire.
For example, it can detect when a malicious "back-door" is installed on a
computer allowing hackers to seize control of a machine, and when unauthorized
users access the network, he said.
IBM will include the Real-Time Networks Awareness software on its eServer
xSeries computers, according to Columbia, Md.-based Sourcefire.
