VMware INTRODUCES OPEN VIRTUAL
INFRASTRUCTURE PLATFORM
VMware Inc, a global leader in virtual infrastructure software for
Intel-based
systems, announced the VMware Software Development Kit (SDK), which provides
an open virtual infrastructure platform for VMware's software partners to
build their own virtual solutions and integrate their management and utility
computing solutions into the VMware virtual infrastructure.
BMC Software, Computer Associates eTrust, Computer Associates Unicenter,
Enigmatec Corp, HP OpenView, HP UDC (Utility Data Center), IBM Director, IBM
Tivoli Software, MetiLinx, Platform Computing, PlateSpin and Surgient will be
among the first to integrate their management and utility computing solutions
into the VMware virtual infrastructure. These integration efforts cement the
VMware virtual infrastructure as a critical technology for the next generation
data center.
"As customers adopt virtual infrastructure as a building block for their
next
generation computing platforms, it's important for VMware to enable their
chosen Enterprise management strategies," said Michael Mullany, vice president
of marketing for VMware. "We've collaborated closely with partners to design
the VMware SDK as an open, standards-based SDK that can quickly and easily
integrate virtual infrastructure management into their offerings."
"Delivered through HP and partners like VMware, virtualization technologies
are a key component of the HP Adaptive Enterprise strategy for synchronizing
IT and business to capitalize on change," said David Gee, vice president for
adaptive management for the Enterprise Systems Group at HP. "Today, HP works
with customers to integrate these solutions for maximum resource optimization,
putting them on the path to extracting more business agility and value from
the IT infrastructure."
"Our partnership with VMware further complements the IBM on demand
strategy,
which is designed to provide businesses with flexible, open solutions that
utilize new and existing IT resources more effectively and cost-efficiently,"
said Mike Twomey, vice president of channels and business development for
Tivoli Software at IBM. "The combination of IBM Tivoli Intelligent
ThinkDynamic Orchestrator with VMware VirtualCenter with VMotion allows
customers to dynamically automate provisioning in a virtualized environment in
real-time, based on their unique business needs."
Partner solutions built on the VMware SDK provide customers with an
unparalleled flexibility to manage resources across a distributed Intel-based
environment. With the resource controls of VMware VirtualCenter and VMware ESX
Server, resources can be dynamically added to or removed from running
Microsoft Windows and Linux systems. With the programmatic interfaces to
VMware's groundbreaking new VMotion technology, partners can create an
integrated solution that maximizes the management and automation benefits of
their software, while leveraging the instant migration benefits of VMotion.
Customers can then use their management interface of choice to dynamically
remap running virtual machines and their applications across physically
separate servers with no service interruption, and with full transaction
integrity.
The VMware SDK incorporates a Web services interface that uses the SOAP and
WSDL standards so that developers can program in their choice of environments,
such as Java, Perl or Visual Studio .NET. The VMware SDK provides a full set
of interfaces for building upon and integrating VMware ESX Server, VMware GSX
Server and VMware VirtualCenter management capabilities into complementary
software solutions. Customers will be able to provision and manage virtual
machines side-by-side with physical machines, seamlessly managing each from a
single point of control.
