Akamai Names Michael Ruffolo Chief
Operating Officer
Akamai Technologies Inc announced it has named Michael Ruffolo as the
company's chief operating officer (COO). As COO, Ruffolo will be responsible
for achieving Akamai's operational objectives with a clear focus on profitable
revenue growth, customer acquisition and retention, and technology innovation.
Ruffolo joined Akamai in August of 2001 as executive vice president with more
than 20 years of leadership experience in the high-technology industry.
"Since joining Akamai, Mike has demonstrated his significant talent as a
trusted leader and an effective manager," said George Conrades, chairman and
CEO of Akamai. "He has been a key member of the management team that has led
the company's turnaround and we look forward to his continuing contributions
to Akamai's success."
Akamai also announced that Robert Hughes, formerly vice president of North
American Sales, has been appointed as vice president of global sales and
services, reporting to Ruffolo; and that the company is conducting a search
for a vice president of global marketing, also to report to Ruffolo.
"Bob Hughes has done an outstanding job throughout his four-year tenure at
Akamai," said Ruffolo. "Most notably, he has been instrumental in driving a
major improvement in North American sales including channels, professional
services and technical consulting. We are very confident in his ability to
lead Akamai's global sales efforts."
Ruffolo will continue to report directly to Conrades along with the other
members of the senior management team, that includes:
- Paul Sagan, president
- Bob Cobuzzi, vice president and chief financial officer
- Chris Schoettle, executive vice president of technology, networks and
support
- Bill Weihl, chief technology officer
- Tom Leighton, co-founder and chief scientist
- Melanie Haratunian, vice president and general counsel
Akamai recently completed the company's most successful financial quarter,
ending the third quarter on September 30 by increasing revenue more than 10
percent quarter-over-quarter to $41.8 million.
