RSA Security Announces New Encryption Software

RSA Security Inc announced the availability of RSA BSAFE SSL-C 2.4 encryption software designed to reduce development time and increase security of applications. The RSA BSAFE SSL-C 2.4 software development kit provides developers with a high quality, fully supported solution that includes extensive sample code, in-depth documentation and technical support to ensure fast development without having to become a cryptographic expert. As a result, RSA Security's solution not only helps large organizations and government agencies meet security requirements, but also helps other technology vendors deliver compliant products in less time and at a lower cost.

"We're developing our application security solution, Primary Response, using RSA BSAFE SSL-C encryption software to help cut down on development time and avoid hidden development costs," said Vlad Gorelick, chief technical officer at Sana Security, a leading vendor of application security software. "RSA Security's reliable security and its reputation for timely delivery were both key factors in selecting RSA BSAFE software."

RSA BSAFE SSL-C 2.4 software is RSA Security's first SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) development kit for C developers with an implementation of the RSA Security Cryptographic Module that has received validation that it conforms to the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 security requirements for cryptographic modules.

With the FIPS validation, RSA BSAFE SSL-C software licensees may use its FIPS-approved standard public-key encryption algorithms, symmetric encryption algorithms, message digest algorithms and other important security components and claim use of FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography in their own products. The RSA BSAFE software validation removes many procurement and technology deployment barriers for third parties developing and selling secure software applications to U.S. and Canadian government agencies. As a result, independent software vendors (ISVs) that decide to validate their own applications can use the FIPS-validated RSA BSAFE software to reduce the significant expense and time of submitting their algorithms for FIPS validation. Developers can avoid the FIPS 140 validation process for their application altogether by using an entire RSA BSAFE validated module.

The following cryptography products from RSA Security have been FIPS validated:

  • RSA BSAFE Crypto-C ME 1.7.2 software
  • RSA BSAFE Crypto-C 5.2.1 software
  • RSA BSAFE Crypto-J 3.3.4 software

In addition to RSA BSAFE SSL-C 2.4 software, the following RSA BSAFE products use FIPS-validated cryptographic modules:

  • RSA BSAFE Cert-J 2.0.3 software -- certificate management components for Java developers
  • RSA BSAFE SSL-J 4.1.4 software -- SSL protocol components for Java developers

"RSA BSAFE SSL-C 2.4 software delivers the quality, reliability and interoperability that helps organizations and government agencies improve security to enhance revenue and reduce costs," said Rick Welch, vice president of developer solutions and professional services at RSA Security. "Our encryption software is designed to provide all developers with unmatched levels of quality and performance for their business applications."

The RSA BSAFE line of security software is embedded in today's most successful Internet applications, including web browsers, wireless devices, commerce servers, operating systems, e-mail systems and virtual private network products. Built to provide implementations of standards such as SSL, S/MIME, WTLS, IPSec and PKCS, RSA BSAFE products can save developers time and reduce risk in their development schedules.
