Aviation Week To Launch
Network-Centric Warfare Publication
Aviation Week Group, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, announced it
will launch in January 2004 a new publication -- NetDefense -- a weekly news
and intelligence service for network-centric operations leaders and
decision-makers worldwide.
The potential of network-centric operations has become evident as a result
of
its use in combat actions in Afghanistan and Iraq. The concept is to use a
broad array of information technologies to create a seamless network that can
bring together all elements of a military force, from sensors to shooters, by
creating a common picture of the battlefield.
NetDefense will seek to provide a "common operational picture" of
network-centric operations that government officials and industry leaders can
rely on as they work together to develop and employ new and effective defense
and security systems for the 21st century. It will be the first news and
information service to take a total 360-degree view of network-centric
operations -- warfighters, air, land, sea and space platforms, sensors,
precision-strike weapons and the information technologies that link them.
"NetDefense will cover current news, policy developments, programs and
business opportunities across all defense and security applications of
network-centric operations -- building on Aviation Week's 85 years of
expertise in covering aerospace and defense," said Kenneth E. Gazzola,
Aviation Week executive vice president/publisher. "Aviation Week is taking the
lead on network-centric operations because we believe that those who create
and use these promising but complex systems need an authoritative source of
news and information devoted to the topic."
NetDefense will be available to subscribers weekly in print, on the Web,
and
via e-mail. It will include VIP distribution, sponsored by Lockheed Martin, to
leaders in Congress, the Pentagon, White House and the Department of Homeland
Security.
