Lindows.com Launches Developer
Program
Lindows.com Inc launched LindowsDeveloper Program, a complete development
solution designed to provide more tools and resources for developers looking
to further drive desktop Linux to the mass market by improving and creating
programs for Linux. To learn more about the LindowsDeveloper Program, visit www.lindows.com/developers.
"Linux developers have told us that they want not only the software tools
to
create programs that work with LindowsOS, but also the ability to market and
sell those software programs to the existing LindowsOS installed base," said
Michael Robertson, chief executive officer of Lindows.com Inc. "Only the
largest developers can get in-store distribution, our program lets small to
medium size developers compete by giving them the ability to market and sell
their wares completely digitally with no upfront cost."
The cornerstone of the LindowsDeveloper Program is a specially designed OS
for
developers, the LindowsDeveloper Edition that has more than 100 development
tools built in. This power-version of LindowsOS makes it easy for developers
to improve existing programs, or create brand new software targeting the
fast-growing desktop Linux market.
Lindows.com also offers a no-cost service called the Lindows.com Publish
Program. This proven marketing tool helps developers sell their software by
connecting developers' products directly to the vast LindowsOS installed user
base. The Lindows.com Publish Program is designed to aid both open-source and
commercial software developers in finding a digital distribution outlet for
their software. Open-source programs are available free to any LindowsOS user
who has a Click-N-Run Membership, while commercial programs are available to
any LindowsOS user. Commercial products available to the LindowsOS user base
include everything from office suites, personal finance software, DVD players
and a Microsoft Windows emulator, to paint programs, graphics generators,
games, fonts, CAD and much more, with prices starting from $4.95-$129, and
most software being priced under $50.
After developers upload their program, Lindows.com works closely with the
developer to ensure their product is properly tested and integrated into the
Click-N-Run Warehouse, a large and growing software library with more than
1,800 programs that can be downloaded with one mouse-click. Once the software
has received its marketing makeover and quality assurance check, it's ready
for distribution or retail sale via the Click-N-Run Warehouse.
Many software developers have used the Developer program, including Sun,
GarageGames, HP, Novell, IBM and NeTraverse. These developers, and many
others, currently offer their wares in the Click-N-Run Warehouse. This number
increases daily as more people migrate over to the stable, secure,
value-priced desktop Linux community.
LindowsDeveloper also offers a Developers Resource Area and The Developers
Workshop , a digital home for high priority open source Linux projects,
complete with communication and tracking tools.
