Systems/Enterprise:
MARIMBA JOINS INDUSTRY LEADERS IN
LAUNCHING DCML
Marimba Inc announced its role as a founding member of the Data Center
Markup
Language (DCML) Organization. The DCML Organization is a collaborative effort,
chartered with driving the DCML specification -- the first vendor neutral
standard to bring IT system interoperability and utility computing to data
centers.
DCML is the first vendor-independent standard that uses a common language
for
describing disparate hardware and software components within the data center.
As a driving force in the DCML Organization, Marimba plans to provide its
in-depth expertise in automating the management of complex server environments
for large enterprises. Marimba's Server Change Management offerings provide a
unified, automated solution that helps customers provision, change, configure,
audit and maintain servers.
The effort has gained the support of twenty-five major technology
companies,
including Opsware, EDS, Computer Associates, BEA Systems, Mercury Interactive,
Tibco, Micromuse, Marimba, Akamai Technologies, NetIQ, Tripwire, Inkra
Networks, Egenera, ITM Software, AlterPoint, BladeLogic, Blue Titan, Centrata,
Configuresoft, Consera, Ejasent, Euclid, Inflow, Racemi and Relicore, and
several Fortune 1000 companies.
The lack of standards in today's data center environment has resulted in
poor
service quality, limited visibility into current data center operations, and
higher costs for IT organizations. By joining other industry leaders in the
areas of data center automation, systems management, monitoring and metering,
and outsourcing, Marimba will spearhead efforts to reduce the complexity and
cost associated with managing the various systems within a data center
today.
Marimba brings more than seven years of experience for managing large
complex
systems for Global 2000 customers and system integrators. Since its inception,
Marimba has been a proponent of industry standards that enable
interoperability. As a member of both the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and
the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF), Marimba has been committed to
participating in standardization efforts and has provided leading software
management solutions built on open standards.
"Marimba is excited to join the DCML Organization as a founding member,"
said
Kia Behnia, Marimba's chief technology officer. "We are committed to open
standards that enable customers to use best-of-breed management solutions to
more effectively manage their systems."
By providing a common language through which all data center application,
server, software and hardware components can communicate with one another,
DCML will help reduce the cost and time required for data center build-outs,
consolidations, migrations and environment replication. DCML will enable
enterprises to implement and upgrade management systems more quickly and
easily, and also to significantly reduce disaster recovery time by capturing
critical configuration information and providing detailed instructions on how
to reconstruct the data center environment.
DCML specifications and details of the launch were announced today in a
separate press release issued by Governing Members of the DCML Organization.
