EJASENT ANNOUNCES PERSISTENT CONNECTION MIGRATION PRODUCT

Ejasent Inc, the leading provider of utility computing solutions for today's data centers, announced the availability of the UpScale Connection Filter which enables connection and session preservation during dynamic application migration from one server to another.

In today's era of Internet computing, the network drives applications, and thus the availability of applications and their connections is a critical issue for CIOs today. With UpScale's Application Virtualization and connection migration capabilities, IT managers now have the ability to instantly scale resources for complex, multi-tiered applications, without losing any application or connection availability or data.

"Application service availability is the final frontier in data center availability. Key to achieving this is the ability to preserve and move connections between machines. This is especially important for databases and ERP applications where connections are persistent and a loss of connections will result in incomplete transactions," says Rajeev Bharadhwaj, Ejasent's CTO.

Ejasent provides utility computing software for policy-based, centralized management of applications and the allocation of underlying processing infrastructure in response to demand. Ejasent's patent-pending application virtualization technology provides an abstraction layer between applications and the underlying infrastructure, enabling dynamic mobility of applications across servers. This allows applications to be scheduled to available servers from storage or migrated between servers during server maintenance or when additional capacity is needed.

Connection Filter from Ejasent significantly enhances Ejasent's industry leading application migration capabilities, enabling not only on-demand processing power, but now also, seamless support for migrating and scaling up connection-based applications in real-time. The result is the ability to schedule applications as and when needed, across available computing resources with Ejasent's policy-based control and execution software.

When a database or an application with frequent or persistent connections reaches the limits of the underlying hardware, the application must be given additional resources to continue to operate at desired performance levels. Typically, this is accomplished by shutting down the application or database and restarting it on a different machine, which will cause the application to lose its state and connections. With the Connection Filter, this can be accomplished by moving the application, together with its process and connection state, to a larger machine, without any loss of state or connections. Ejasent benchmarks show the migration of a running Oracle database with 200-plus connections from a 1-processor to a 4-processor server in less than 10 seconds, preserving process state and connections, with the migration completely transparent to the end users. Utilized across a data center environment with many large enterprise applications, UpScale provides a data center automation capability, which dramatically increases both utilization and maintainability of application environments.

Ejasent's patent-pending Connection Filter is a module within the UpScale policy-based application management and virtualization system. Ejasent's UpScale dramatically improves the performance and utilization of IT assets by dynamic scheduling and allocation of resources to enable centralized application management and on-demand computing. UpScale utilizes Ejasent's patent-pending snapshot/restore technology, which virtualizes applications across pools of server and infrastructure resources and then dynamically provisions and de-provisions complex, large applications across different servers based on demand.
