Platform Logic AppFire Suite Prevents Hackers From 'Day Zero'

Platform Logic Inc, unveiled AppFire Suite v 2.0, its host intrusion prevention software that proactively protects operating systems and applications from known and unknown viruses, worms and unauthorized network intrusions from "day zero."

"Hackers are easily bypassing network-based security systems, taking over computers and creating a constant atmosphere of fire-fighting," said Homayoon Tajalli, president and CEO of Platform Logic. "AppFire is the first system that individually detects commands that are outside an application's usual behavior and prevents the commands from being executed. This means rather than wait for patches or signature updates, AppFire protects from day zero."

Platform Logic's patent-pending technology provides an important new security capability -- behavior-based control for individual operating system functions and applications that are suitable for both servers and workstations. Rather than simply watching network activity, e-mails and files for known attack signatures, Platform Logic's AppFire Suite individually wraps each operating system function and application and then monitors program behavior on a server or workstation to prevent inappropriate behavior from being executed. The AppFire Suite supports a variety of Windows and UNIX operating systems and applications out of the box.

"While security breaches are coming faster and causing more damage, tightening the firewall and adding more bodies to the patch process isn't enough," said Rick Wall, information security specialist for Mercantile Bankshares Corporation. "We need to get ahead of the curve, and be protected from day zero against any operating system or application vulnerability. The AppFire Suite is the only solution I've seen that does this."

"Network-level defenses are a critical component of any layered security architecture, but they lack the ability to identify or repel attacks aimed at operating system and application level vulnerabilities," said Eric Ogren, senior analyst of Security Solutions and Services at the Yankee Group, a technology research and consulting firm. "Enterprises must look to policy- oriented host intrusion prevention products like the AppFire Suite to reduce disruptions in business applications from these increasingly frequent attacks."

The AppFire Suite was developed by a seasoned team of security experts who, over the past 15 years, have pioneered the industry with innovations such as the Gauntlet firewall, the first fully exportable encryption, RecoverKey, and secure operating systems such as Trusted Mach and Trusted XENIX. With AppFire, the team has introduced another industry first -- the patent pending Modular Policy Architecture -- offering a unique level of operating system and application security control in complex enterprise environments.

The AppFire Suite consists of four components: the Management Server, two powerful user interfaces, one called the Enterprise Manager for systems administrators, and the other called the Policy Authoring Environment for security specialists, and the Behavior Control Agent. AppFire v2 is available immediately, and can be obtained for a free 15-day evaluation at: www.platformlogic.com/evaluation.asp.
