Flashline Joins Object Management Group

Flashline, a leading provider of software asset management for enterprise programs, announced that it has joined the Object Management Group (OMG), an international consortium setting standards in the area of distributed object computing. As a Platform member of the OMG, Flashline will participate in the process of creating, extending and refining specifications for technologies supporting Model-driven Architecture, including the Reusable Asset Specification (RAS) and Unified Modeling Language.

Flashline joins IBM Rational as a co-contributor of RAS to the OMG. Through its involvement with the OMG, Flashline will continue to work with the software community on evolving RAS into the industry standard for describing software assets, such as code, frameworks and models, in a way that will enable more reuse. In addition, Flashline will participate on the Legacy Transformation Platform Special Interest Group, working to create specifications to promote the interoperability of tools and processes within the legacy transformation field. William M. Ulrich, member of the Flashline Software Development Productivity Council, is co-chair of the Legacy Transformation group.

"Flashline has contributed to the development of RAS since its inception in 2000. The ability to use an open industry standard for describing assets will streamline the process for organizations to understand and share assets within groups and across an enterprise," states Charles Stack, chief executive officer of Flashline and representative to the OMG. "Joining the OMG advances our commitment to asset reuse, and we look forward to continuing the evolution of RAS and other standards that can drive reuse in the industry."

"Flashline brings to the OMG expertise in asset reuse in addition to a history of successfully working with organizations to achieve the benefits of reuse," states Dr. Richard Soley, chairman and chief executive officer of OMG. "Creating an industry standard for reusable assets is critical as organizations today are applying the concept of reuse to a variety of software assets, not just components. We welcome Flashline to OMG and look forward to its contributions."
