STORServer To Ship New Line Of Backup Appliances

STORServer announced it will begin shipping its line of Powered by Windows Backup Appliances, the first of its Backup Appliances to integrate Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 next month. The new STORServer Powered by Windows line currently includes all models.

Last month, STORServer signed an OEM agreement with Microsoft to incorporate Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003, its latest version of NAS.

"Microsoft is our preferred operating system for our Backup Appliances because of its state-of-the-art technology," said STORServer President John Pearring.

STORServer Backup Appliances utilize the Windows Storage Server 2003 Web-based user interface -- integrated with backup and recovery software -- to offer backup, storage and disaster recovery in an easy-to-use, take out of the box, plug and play format.

"Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 allows us to quickly build and deliver new Backup Appliances using the latest Windows Server technology," Pearring continued.

"STORServer's Backup Appliances running on the Windows platform will provide customers with solid data protection," said Claude Lorenson, product manager of the Enterprise Storage Division at Microsoft Corp. STORServer fulfills a critical need for backup, archiving and disaster recovery in NAS infrastructure and heterogeneous computing environments.

"Our customers will directly benefit from having a fixed function Backup Appliance," said David Miller, director of engineering and architect at STORServer. "By significantly reducing the complexity associated with server administration, increasing system reliability and enabling the ability to securely manage the server remotely, overall administration costs are reduced and ROI is enhanced."

STORServer Powered by Windows Backup Appliances scale from 50Gig of customer data up to 10 TB depending on the model. Costs range from $15,000 for model 1s to $120,000 for Model 5000s. The STORServer Powered by Windows Backup Appliance is production-ready in 15 minutes, takes only 30 minutes a day to manage, and meets a one to four hour backup window.

STORServer Powered by Windows Backup Appliances work with 35 different platforms (including Unix Brands, Linux, Windows and OpenVMS).
