Sandvine Wins World Communication
Award
Network technology company Sandvine Inc has been honored with a 2003 World
Communication Award (WCA), the premier technology accolade for the global
telecommunications industry.
Sandvine's Peer-To-Peer Policy Management platform won the award for "Best
Technology Foresight." It allows broadband service providers to better manage
the impact of peer-to-peer file sharing activity on their networks.
Co-sponsored by Total Telecom Magazine and the European Competitive
Telecommunications Association, the World Communication Awards celebrate
telecoms excellence, setting an annual league table of European companies and
technologies that have the "potential for far reaching effect" on business or
consumer markets. Winners were announced last night at the London Hilton Park
Lane.
"The explosion of file-sharing traffic on broadband networks has made P2P
bandwidth management a hot topic and an operational necessity," said Dave
Caputo, co-founder, president and CEO of Sandvine. "We are very pleased that
the WCA judges have honored Sandvine for our foresight in developing a
subscriber-friendly approach to the P2P problem."
WCA 2003 drew 163 entries from 77 companies. A total of 30 companies were
shortlisted in at least one of 11 categories. Finalists included major-brand
operators and vendors like BT Wholesale, Virgin Mobile, AT&T, Equant, NTT
Communications, Belgacom, Vodafone and SingTel.
