Richard Laming Vice President Of
Avanex Livingston
Avanex Corporation, a global pioneer of cost-effective, high-performance
intelligent photonic processing subsystem and module solutions, announced that
Dr. Richard I. Laming has been named vice president of Avanex Livingston.
Laming has responsibility for operations at the Avanex facility in
Livingston,
United Kingdom. The Avanex facility in Livingston is home to Avanex's Center
of Excellence in passive optical components based on Fiber Bragg grating,
planar lightwave circuit and MEMS technologies.
Laming joined Avanex in July when Avanex acquired Alcatel Optronics France
SA,
a subsidiary of Alcatel. He was a founder of Kymata in 1998 and served as the
company's CTO. After the acquisition of Kymata by Alcatel in 2001 he became
CTO of Alcatel Optronics UK Ltd. In these roles he set the strategy covering
PLCs, MEMs and hybrids and had the overall lead for technical developments. In
September 2002 he became CEO of AOUK, serving in that capacity until the
acquisition by Avanex.
Before the founding of Kymata, Laming spent 13 years at the world- renowned
Optoelectronics Research Centre at Southampton University and left as a deputy
director. He began his career with the Ford Motor Company, developing
electronic engine management systems at Ford's UK R&D centre.
Laming obtained a first class honors degree in mechanical engineering from
Nottingham University and Ph.D. from Southampton University. He is a Chartered
Engineer, and, at the time of election, the youngest-ever Fellow of the Royal
Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers
and a Distinguished Member of the Alcatel Technical Academy.
