Storage:
Unitrends, LSI Collaborate,
Deliver Data Protection Vault
Unitrends Software Corp, a leader in the development of enterprise-wide,
cross-platform data-protection products and services, and LSI Logic Storage
Systems, a leader in delivering technology that enables high-performance,
highly scalable storage for the open enterprise, announced the availability of
Unitrends' Data Protection Vault (DPV), an enterprise-class business
continuity solution for global site protection. Unitrends' Secure Data Sync
software, coupled with LSI Logic Storage Systems' controller technology and
SANtricity Storage Manager software, serve as the foundation of the DPV.
The DPV, which scales to protect up to 17 terabytes of data, is a
disk-based
data repository that enables businesses to safeguard an unlimited number of
networked systems at multiple locations. The DPV serves as a centralized,
highly available offsite storage center for Unitrends' Data Protection Units
(DPUs), which provide fast disk-to-disk backup and bare metal recovery for
systems at local sites. Onsite DPUs are linked to the DPV by Unitrends' Secure
Data Sync software, which synchronizes data at a block level, funneling the
changed data into a master backup. If a customer requires additional archival
capacity, centralized tape storage can be attached.
"Our companies' collaboration on the DPV is one more way businesses can
leverage the reliability, speed and high availability of solutions typically
associated with much more expensive storage offerings," said Steve Gardner,
director of product marketing for LSI Logic Storage Systems. "LSI Logic
Storage Systems' entry-level controller is designed to deliver significant
price/performance benefits with robust features, functionality and modular
scalability. SANtricity Storage Manager software provides complete control
over rapidly growing storage environments through centralized management,
robust functionality and integrated consolidation and replication
capabilities."
"Events such as last month's massive power outage across the Northeast and
the
recent worm attacks are re-energizing enterprises that may have become
complacent about disaster recovery after the events of 9-11 faded," said
Jacques McCormack, president of Unitrends. "Today's business environment
demands that businesses not only protect their data locally, but that they
increase their disaster recovery geographic separation and be able to recover
the data from an offsite location in less than 48 hours."
Unitrends' DPV is available through the company's network of authorized
resellers in either an ATA or Fibre Channel configuration for budget-conscious
customers seeking high availability and high-speed performance at a
manufacturer's suggested retail price of less than $25,000.
