ZyXEL Introduces Gigabit Ethernet
Switches
ZyXEL Communications, a leading provider of broadband access solutions,
announced the U.S. launch of its Dimension Gigabit SOHO (GS) series of
100/1000Mb per second Gigabit Ethernet switches targeted to the small
office/home office (SOHO) environment and small-to-medium-sized business (SMB)
networks.
The Dimension GS series offers data transfer speeds, which are 10 times
faster
than previous 10/100Mb per second products and are ideal for high traffic
networks. Faster data transfer speeds, as well as a slim, plug-and-play design
and powerful price/performance ratio appeal to home and small business
consumers. The switches can be easily deployed over existing CAT 5 cable,
delivering an affordable solution for the huge and ever-growing SOHO and SMB
markets.
Industry sources predict growth in the market as small business and home
users
demand the benefits of Gigabit connections, which provide the ultra-high
bandwidth required for applications such as serving online multimedia and
video. According to a recent Gartner report on worldwide Ethernet switch
shipments, SOHO switch sales remain strong and highly competitive pricing
appears to be driving demand.
"ZyXEL is able to leverage our history of robust, enterprise-quality
technology with ease-of-use and dependable features to deliver a low-cost,
feature-rich broadband access and network management solution for any size
network, any size budget," said Munira Brooks, vice president of sales,
marketing and strategic account development at ZyXEL.
Solid Technical Features Support Price/Performance Value Proposition
ZyXEL's Dimension GS series switches provide high flexibility and high
bandwidth connectivity to servers, workstations and other attached devices,
without complex management requirements. The switches feature auto-sensing
10/100/1000Mb per second ports that automatically detect the speed and duplex
mode of attached servers, workstation and hubs, making installation quick and
easy.
IEEE 802.3x standard-based flow control allows the Dimension GS switches to
prevent pending traffic congestion by instructing the attached devices to halt
transmission. When the switch detects that the buffer for each port is nearly
full, it requests the attached devices to wait until they can accept new
data.
With the new auto-MDI/MDI-X, GS switches automatically adjust the
transmit/receive pins of a port based on the signal detected on the wire from
the attached device, making crossover cables obsolete.
ZyXEL's Dimension GS series includes:
- GS-105 5-Port 10/100/1000 Switch, $149 MSRP
- GS-108 8-Port 10/100/1000 Switch, $209 MSRP
