PHP Adoption Reaches Tipping Point In Corporate United States

Growing adoption and legitimacy of Linux and Apache within enterprise organizations is driving the proliferation of mission critical applications written in PHP. Apache, now with over 63 percent server market share across all domains and PHP, which accounts for roughly 26 percent of all domains on the Internet, are now a genuine option for enterprises deploying mission critical Web applications.

Zend, founded by the designers of the Zend Engine, the core of PHP, and the leading provider of PHP productivity solutions, announced the release of Zend Studio 3.0. After a successful month-long beta period, Zend Studio 3.0 brings a feature rich Integrated Development Environment (IDE) designed specifically for advanced professional Web developers building mission critical applications in PHP, JavaScript and HTML. Zend Studio provides the tools developers demand for PHP development and is already used by more than 18,000 developers in companies such as Bausch & Lomb, Siemens, Lycos Germany, Outback Steakhouse and Deutsche Telekom.

Zend Technologies has been contributing to legitimacy and proliferation of open source PHP since 1999 with initiatives such as the development of the Zend Engine 2, authoring of PHP 5, the JSR initiative with Sun Microsystems and most recently, the launch of the Studio 3.0. With this market knowledge and experience, Zend has recognized the enterprise need for sophisticated, PHP productivity tools. Zend Studio 3.0, now with support for PHP 5, significantly faster performance, expert level debugger and project management tools, allows enterprise developers to write robust, bug free code, rapidly develop mission critical Web applications and seamlessly deploy and maintain their PHP applications.

"The release of Zend Studio 3.0 now gives enterprises the support they need to adopt PHP for their mission critical, eBusiness applications," said Zeev Suraski, co-designer of PHP and co-founder and CTO of Zend Technologies. "With full support of PHP 5 including advanced editing, debugging and analysis of PHP applications, Zend Studio allows enterprises to simplify the development and maintenance of their applications, improve the quality of their applications and shorten time to market. The upcoming release 5 is going to make PHP even more attractive to big organizations, and strengthen its position in the enterprise world as the scripting language of choice for developing Web applications. The PHP 5 release, scheduled for the end of 2003, meets the needs of the enterprise world, including a new powerful object model and state of the art XML support."

"With the increasing complexity of PHP, professional developers need a tool built specifically for PHP," said Jason Halla, Web applications developer for The American Legion, and moderator of DevShed's PHP Forum. "If you are serious about using PHP, Zend Studio is the only development environment with a complete, PHP-centric feature set for the professional developer. With integrated support for the much anticipated PHP 5 release, as well as stronger XML integration, built-in code analyzer and a host of other excellent features, Zend Studio 3.0 put the future of PHP at your fingertips today -- in a faster, easier to use interface."

Zend Studio 3.0, a major upgrade to the already well-received Zend Studio 2.x, enables professional developers to write robust, bug-free code with advanced debugging tools including a remote debugger, debug URL and quick debug directly from their browser. The innovative Code Profiler, which determines which parts of the application are slowing down the project, and Code Analyzer, which analyzes static source code and attempts to reconcile problematic code, give PHP developers the tools to maximize their code quickly and efficiently. Tools such as advanced code completion, JavaScript and HTML support and customizable key maps speed time to market and improve coding efficiency. Full version management and FTP integration, project and file inspectors and advanced project management capabilities allow developers to seamlessly maintain and deploy their PHP applications.
