Redline Processor Speeds Access To
MS Partner Portal
A Redline Networks Application Processor installed in Microsoft's corporate
network in Redmond, Wash., has led to a 50 percent performance improvement in
the web portal used by Microsoft sales partners worldwide. Microsoft installed
the Redline E/X 3250 appliance late in 2002 to improve the speed with which
its business partners could access the site to obtain sales leads and manage
partner opportunities. The site uses the webified version of Siebel Systems
6.0 customer relationship management software as its partner interface.
"Our partner portal application was centrally located at our Washington
headquarters, but was being accessed by partners from every corner of the
globe," said Becka Johnson, senior manager of enterprise systems operations at
Microsoft. "We needed a way to boost end-user performance, but, since the
application software wasn't our own, we had to find an approach other than
speeding up the application itself. After installing the Redline unit in front
of our Siebel application, we saw an immediate 50 percent performance
improvement for remote users. The area which realized the most dramatic
performance increase was serving up dynamic content from our web sites. An
added benefit was that we were able to offload the SSL (secure sockets layer)
function from the web server."
Redline also delivered 3:1 overall compression, which gave remote and home
office users faster downloads and more bandwidth for other applications.
The Redline E/X 3250 is one of a family of Redline Networks Application
Processors that speeds webified application performance using an operating
environment and software architecture optimized specifically for web-based I/O
functions. The E/X 3250 supports more than 10,000 concurrent users.
