Security:
Network Engines Partners, Authenex
Form Alliance
Network Engines Inc, a leading development, manufacturing and distribution
partner for storage and security software and equipment providers, and
Authenex, a leading provider of affordable and strong authenticated e-security
applications, announced a partnership to develop and market two-factor
authentication network security appliances.
TidalWire, the distribution arm of Network Engines will be the exclusive
distributor of the new appliances, which will include the Authenex Strong
Authentication System (ASAS) for two-factor VPN and LAN
authentication, and AOne, a two-factor authentication system that
integrates Authenex ASAS with the Microsoft Internet Security and
Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 to provide a suite of strong e-security
solutions, as well as Strong (Web) Access Control (SAC). Two-factor
authentication allows a system to grant access only when provided with two
identifiers -- something the user knows (such as a password or PIN) and
something the user has (such as an ATM card or, as in the case of the
A-Key, a USB token).
"Until now, implementing two-factor authentication in a network has been
expensive, complex, and labor-intensive," said Paul Lin, CEO of Authenex.
"This partnership allows Authenex and Network Engines to give the IT manager
more options for implementing affordable, easy to install and easy to maintain
two-factor authentication solutions in their network."
IT managers have consistently rated the installations of new software as
one
of their most time-consuming and difficult IT tasks. A standalone server
appliance allows IT managers to rapidly deploy new software functionality into
an enterprise environment without the need to reconfigure existing servers or
add costly new enterprise resources.
"Putting the Authenex two-factor authentication solutions on appliances
provides a significant competitive advantage, and we expect a strong response
from the market," said Mike Riley, vice president of marketing and strategy of
Network Engines. "This partnership is a prime example of the value provided by
our appliance development and distribution services for companies such as
Authenex. Together with Authenex, we are able to offer a strong e-security
solution packaged in an easy-to-install platform, and market it to our channel
of more than 500 value-added resellers and systems integrators."
Authenex ASAS provides two-factor authentication for remote VPN, LAN, and
web-based access, and is compatible with the world's most popular remote
firewall and VPN solutions, including Check Point, Cisco, Nortel and
Microsoft. It is an independent authentication solution that does not require
PKI, though the A-Key USB token may be used for certificate storage in a PKI
environment.
Authenex AOne integrates Authenex ASAS and Microsoft Internet Security and
Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000, to deliver an all-in-one suite of two-factor
network security applications. AOne also features a solution that is unique to
the security space: Strong (Web) Access Control (SAC) using the A-Key. AOne
and the A-Key also provide strong two-factor authentication for Microsoft
Outlook Web Access.
The Authenex Two-Factor Authentication Appliances will be available from
Network Engines' distribution operations later this year.
