FIORINA TOUTS ENTERPRISE
INITIATIVE, SLAMS DELL, IBM
Hewlett-Packard Co. Chairman and CEO Carly Fiorina does not consider the
company's Adaptive Enterprise initiative to be magical in any way, as she let
attendees know during a keynote speech at HP World in Atlanta.
Rather, she believes the strategy has already proven itself in the real
world,
as can seen by HP's acquisition of Compaq Computer Corp. This while managing
to save roughly $3.5 billion during the past year.
In fact, Fiorina touted the Adaptive Enterprise intiative as a shining
example
of HP's commitment to offering technology that will help company's do business
more effectively. She also took the opportunity to take shots at competitors
Dell and IBM.
Fiorina commented that technology and focus are the life-blood of HP,
although
not necessarily of its competitors. Dell took "computer" out of its name
because it is not a technology company, she said, and IBM is too costly.
She said that business and technology should be one, and HP's Adaptive
Enterprise initiative offers customers a way to achieve that goal by making
sure that technology is capable of adapting to fit ever-changing business
needs.
HP, however, is not alone in this thinking -- both IBM and Sun Microsystems
Inc are working on similar programs. The goal of all, of course, is to develop
a simple, flexible IT infrastructure.
The difference, Fiorina said, is that HPs stratgey does not require a
business
to trash its current system. Instead, it begins with an assessment of the
current IT infrastructure, and works from there.
