Atlas Tool Helps Developers Access Project Information
Progeny announced that it has been working with HP and the Open Source
Development Network (OSDN) to create Atlas, an open source product search
tool, for the Linux Programmer's Toolkit (PTK). "Atlas will be a valuable
resource for developers. OSDN has a strong interest in promoting efforts that
support the open source community," said Jeff "hemos" Bates, Director, OSDN
Online.
Combining project details and ratings from OSDN's Freshmeat and SourceForge,
Atlas contains information on more than 1,000 open source packages included in
PTK. Atlas is searchable by keyword or category and links to popular search
engines for additional information.
"HP is committed to supporting Linux by making development easier for
experienced developers who are not familiar with Linux," said Steve Geary,
director of Linux and Open Source Lab, HP Business Critical Systems. "HP is
pleased to be working with Progeny on advancing the PTK."
PTK (ptk.progeny.com) is an integrated development framework that includes the
best and most up-to-date tools for developing Linux applications on IA32 and
IA64/Itanium systems using Red Hat or Debian Linux.
Other significant PTK developments:
- Redesigned PTK website for easier navigation
- OS enhancements, including upgrades to the KDE 3.1 desktop, GNOME 2.2, Perl
5.8, Python v2.2
- Numerous security updates
- Addition of GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 3.2 and 3.3 (default)
- Support for Red Hat 9
"Progeny is pleased to collaborate with HP to develop and maintain PTK as a
valuable developer community resource. The addition of Atlas, in cooperation
with OSDN, complements the leading-edge technology that is central to PTK,"
said Garth Dickey, president and chief executive officer of Progeny.
