Procera Files 39 Layer 7
Application Switching Patent Claims
Procera Networks announced that it has filed 39 patent claims for 22
countries
related to managing and controlling Layer 7 applications with network
switches.
These patent claims cover unique technologies and feature areas such as
Expert
Policies, Time-Triggered Actions, Wired QoS, Wireless QoS, Flow Metering,
Network Lockdown, URLock, Network Security and Surveillance.
Procera CEO Doug Glader commented, "We filed these patent claims to protect
our industry-leading intellectual property incorporated in our Layer 7
application switch products. Only Procera offers a multi-port network switch
that can provide switching, routing, Layer 7 content control, QoS, rate
limiting and selective surveillance at wire-speed on a single platform. We
offer price/performance that is unmatched in the industry."
Procera VP of Engineering Mick Hansen states, "We have worked very hard
over
the past two years to develop a network switch that supports deep packet
inspection on all ports at wire-speed. We are able to inspect up to the first
80 bytes of every packet. This allows us to define up to 100 concurrent Layer
7 application based polices. We developed proprietary software APIs to take
advantage of the maximum number of features and highest performance possible
on our hardware platform."
Procera is completing the conversion of these provisional patents to
utility
applications for both US and foreign rights. Procera's MLS Layer 7 Application
Switches are available now in production.
