Oracle Hits New Application Server
Sales Milestone
Oracle Corp, one of the world's largest enterprise software companies, has
announced a new sales record for Oracle9i Application Server, which is
middleware used to develop and manage applications. Demonstrating its growing
strength and presence in the application server market, Oracle has signed more
than 3,000 new Oracle9i Application Server customers during its past three
quarters, which is more than double the number of new application server
customers signed by BEA in the same time period. The Oracle9i Application
Server customer base now totals 16,000.
Oracle's success points to enterprise customers selecting a single product
for
the development, deployment and management of Java and Web services
applications. The tight integration with the Oracle database further attracts
long-time Oracle customers who benefit from faster development, increased cost
savings and enhanced performance.
Customers from around the world and in a variety of industries -- from
higher
education and government agencies, to manufacturing and telecommunications
companies -- are benefiting from Oracle9i Application Server. One such
customer is ES&S, the world's leading and most experienced provider of
election management solutions. ES&S is using Oracle9i Application Server on
Red Hat Linux to run over 74,000 applications. ES&S selected Oracle over BEA
Systems because of its compatibility with existing standards, tight
integration with Oracle9i Database and comprehensive wireless
capabilities.
"The Oracle stack on Linux has been bullet-proof. It provides us with the
highest level of security and reliability available on the market, which we
pass on to our customers," said Guy Duncan, vice president of Internet
technology for ES&S. "Despite numerous attempts by hackers to break into our
system, Oracle Database and Oracle9i Application Server have proven to be
unbreakable, for instance allowing us recently to deliver secure, Web-based
voting solutions to three different jurisdictions in the UK. That level of
protection and availability is invaluable."
Another customer benefiting from Oracle9i Application Server is Bechtle
A.G.,
a leader in information technology e-commerce and system integration. The
company has more than 250,000 registered users accessing the application
server with 600,000 pages served a day, and expects pages to reach 2,000,000
per day. Despite the heavy demands on its system, Bechtle A.G. has increased
scalability, system manageability and lowered integration costs using Oracle9i
Application Server.
Two other examples of Oracle9i Application Server's use are NH Hotels and
Latvenergo. With over 240 properties worldwide, NH Hotels selected Oracle9i
Application Server to consolidate multiple countries, domains and servers into
a single system to decrease maintenance costs. Latvia's electricity monopoly,
Latvenergo, draws on Oracle to improve performance, achieve higher
availability and reduce hardware costs, while minimizing future scalability
and manageability costs.
During Oracle's fourth quarter, which ended on May 31, 2003, Oracle signed
more than 1,000 new customers, including 19th Judicial District Court Baton
Rouge, Louisiana; ACT Inc; AECOM Technology Corporation; AMS-Swedish National
Labour Market Administration; Apa Nova Athens 2004; S.A. Banque Misr; Bell
Sports; Bladcentralen; Central Missouri State University; Constellation Energy
Group; Copenhagen University; Danish Agriculture Advisory Service; Department
of Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Digi
Telecommunications Sdn. Bhd.; Dorothem GmbH 7 Co. KG; Essilor Euskal Irrati
Telebista EITB; Fuji Hunt Photographic Chemicals Pte. Ltd.; Glendale Community
College District; Great Eastern Life Assurance Co Ltd; Halliburton Itellium
Systems and Services; JMS Singapore; Louisiana Department of Health and Human
Services; M&R Printing Equipment; Ministry of Health Malaysia; Malaysia
National Leisure Group; Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health
Information; Norwegian Public Road Administration; Office of Public Prosecutor
of Ukraine; Petroject Stepan; Texas A&M in Corpus Christi; and TIM Peru
UPM-Kymmene Oyj.
Included in the 16,000 Oracle9i Application Server customers are a
significant
number of Oracle Database customers who initially selected BEA WebLogic and
have found Oracle9i Application Server to be a more logical choice due to its
optimization for the Oracle Database.
