Blue Ridge Networks Collaborates On Secure VPN Solutions

Rainbow Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of digital content and transaction security for the Internet and Instant Private Webs (IPWs), and Blue Ridge Networks, a leading provider of secure virtual private network (VPN) solutions, announced a joint technology and marketing agreement for integrated security products for secure VPNs with strong end-user authentication.

Under the terms of the agreement, Blue Ridge Networks will integrate and sell Rainbow's market-leading iKey USB authentication token with its BorderGuard product and service solutions. The iKey is integrated for strong two-factor authentication with Blue Ridge's VPN Client, and used as a hardware security key for the BorderGuard CryptoServer appliance. "The integrated solution of BorderGuard and iKey enables our joint customers to access their network resources in a proven and highly secure manner," said Bob Hartnett, Chairman and CEO of Blue Ridge Networks. "We believe our combined products offer new ways to expand secure VPNs to give customers more robust solutions for secure remote access and strong end-user authentication."

"We are pleased to work closely with Blue Ridge Networks to make security simple for secure VPN customers," said David M. Lynch, vice president, worldwide marketing, Rainbow Technologies. "The strong authentication offered by our iKey USB token and the integration work of Blue Ridge Networks will play an important role in expanding the use of iKey in secure VPN environments."

BorderGuard Remote Access VPN turns remote laptops into highly secure access points to the corporate network. Using an integrated PKI crypto system, BorderGuard Remote Access creates a completely secure and private connection between remote users and a company's selected network resources. The PKI credentials required to gain access to the network are protected within the iKey authentication token. The iKey, paired with a password, creates a strong two-factor authentication system that definitively validates the user's identity and effectively locks out impersonators attempting to attack the corporate network.

The iKey also acts as a secure container for the BorderGuard CryptoServer's public key credentials. Once the iKey is inserted into the CryptoServer, a public key exchange takes place before the appliance can be used. This ensures that each cryptographic tunnel can be strongly authenticated back to its source and that the CryptoServer can be easily disabled on a temporary or permanent basis for added security. The CryptoServer will not work without the proper iKey.
