MACADAMIAN ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP
WITH UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA
Macadamian Technologies Inc, a software engineering firm that focuses on
emerging technologies, announced that it was chosen to help build a grid
computing infrastructure for the bioinformatics, coding, cryptology, and
combinatorial algorithms lab at the University of Ottawa.
Ottawa University's lab will feature high-powered UNIX and Linux
workstations
and servers linked by a grid computing enginea technology that harnesses the
power of many computers linked in a network to process the large amounts of
data required in bioinformatics and cryptography research. Grid computing
solves large-scale problems in fields such as bioinformatics research and
cryptography by accessing and managing the resources of multiple computers
working in conjunction to analyze data.
Macadamian's Life Sciences group will integrate and configure the lab's
grid
engine. With an emphasis on open-source solutions, Macadamian will help
University of Ottawa select the software for the lab. The team will also
provide software training and mentoring.
"This partnership represents a significant win for our growing life
sciences
practice," said Frederic Boulanger, president of Macadamian Technologies. "Our
contribution will help University of Ottawa achieve the computing power needed
for bioinformatics in a cost effective way."
"Macadamian brings significant experience in open source and Unix
computing,
and knowledge of bioinformatics to the project," said Marcel Turcotte,
Bioinformatics Scientist, Ottawa University. "We're very happy to have them on
board."
