HP CONTINUES TO SCOOP UP
LUMINARIES
David Reed, long-time Internet pioneer and industry luminary, is the most
recent in a spate of high-profile hirings at industry giant Hewlett-Packard.
Reed, 52, is set to join the HP labs research team, where he will rub
proverbial elbows with another recent hire, Alan Kay, who came over from the
Xeroc Palo Alto Research Center.
Reed, who was instrumental in the production of TCP/IP, a cornerstone
technology for today's Internet, will be working on adaptive enterprise
research, finding ways for customers to get the greatest leverage out of their
existing technology, as well as the ability for rapid adaptation to changes
in business environments. Reed's specific role will be to focus on network
adaptability and scalability for HP. He is also interested in finding new and
more robust wireless networking technologies to replace teh current WiFi
networks.
Along side his position in the research lab, Reed will maintain his
position
as an adjunct professor in the Viral Communications group at the MIT Media
Lab, as well as co-direct the MIT Communications Futures Program.
